My husband and I drove to Nova Scotia from Michigan last August, and it was well worth the trip!
I highly recommend spending time in Digby, NS. It's a long way to get there, but we had so much fun staying at Thistle Down Country Inn. The web site is: http://www.thistledown.ns.ca/
The owners are so sweet, and the scallops are unbelievable. We drove down Digby Neck one day and went whale-watching. Very cool. The Digby Scallop Days festival is supposed to be great, and I think it's in August.
We also camped at Fundy National Park and, while it was very pretty, I think you can cover it in a day. The majority of the hiking and biking trails are only for the very experienced outdoorsman.

Congrats on the big event. You seem to be cramming a lot in during a short period. We drive from New York State and make it in an overnight. A few days in Main might be better saved for another time. The Scotia Prince is an overnight ferry from Portland and leaves in the evening and gets you there in the morning. You can eat on board and there is, of course, a casino and night clubs. The cost of a cabin could be offset by the fact you don't have to pay for a hotel at those sky high summer rates in Maine. We stayed over in Bangor on last summer's drive to NB and PEI and thought it was nuts what we had to pay to crash for a few hours in a low-class motel. See my posting on one of the other strings regarding the Gowrie House in North Sydney for a nice place to stay if you're going to the Cape Breton area. There are some places along the Evangaline Trail to see the Fundy Tides, but nothing as spectacular as Hopewell Rocks if you want to drive or ferry over to New Brunswick. Maybe that's another trip. Peggy's Cove near Halifax is one of the NS don't miss attractions. Try to get there early so you can look around before the tourist busses arrive.

Hi all! We may or may not be cramming too much into our two-week adventure, but here it is!

Drive from New Haven to Bar Harbor, stay a few days at the www.themaplesinn.com.

Take the ferry to Yarmouth, stay at a little place just one night before heading up the Lighthouse Route to Halifax, where we're staying at www.sternsmansion.com for two nights.

Then...heading up to Cape Breton doing two nights at the honeymoon suite at www.castlemoffet.com and four nights at a cottage at www.normaway.com. Can't WAIT for this portion of the trip!!!

Then....heading down to Wolfville to www.victoriashistoricinn.com. And from there we'll head on home! I'm absolutely ecstatic about this trip!!!

RE: Normaway Inn. We stayed there last year for one night and really enjoyed the cabin-rustic but great porch. The tennis court was badly in need of repair. I'm wondering why you decided on this location for 4 nights. There isn't much to the property and it isn't in a particularly scenic location. Food was OK, but not great-what you might expect of a good cook at home, not exceptional restaurant fare.

Hi Robyn, sounds like a great trip. My husband and I come back to Nova Scotia twice a year. We own land there and are building a cottage now. So we've been travelling a lot and know quite a bit of the country. If I were you I would absolutely avoid Casle Moffet!!! It's not a real castle but a simple house pretending to be a castle like the owner is pretending to be scottish but he is from Florida. Oooops! Castle Moffet is nothing but a big tourist trap and of very bad taste. The house is situated only a few meters off a noisy major highway and absolutely not inside the town of Baddeck as you might think. Have a great trip to beautiful Nova Scotia!

my bad for not going to a proper source and relying on second-hand info re background of "lunenburg". Official web site of town corroborates your version in every detail. So, I am a little bit wiser.

Still couldn't find the Louisbourg website under 'Louisburg' on google, but now I at least know there's such a place as "Louisburg, North Carolina"....

Anyway, thanks again stillhouse for a wonderful report, full of rich detail. And Robyn, I hope your honeymoon plans go smoothly.
