Nova Scotia - 3rd week of October?

Would this be a cold, miserable time to go to Nova Scotia?

Hi, otc,
I grew up in Nova Scotia where the weather is generally unpredictable. Although I no longer live there, in October, always go to Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia for Canadian Thanksgiving which is Oct 5 in 2011. So, I will be there during the 2 weeks preceding your visit if you go the week of Oct 16.

We have had some glorious Thanksgiving weekends when the weather is sunny & warm. We have also had weekends where it is rainy & foggy. You just never know.

If that is the only time you can go, then go & keep your fingers crossed.

I hope you have Cape Breton in your travel plans!

Sorry...Canadian Thanksgiving in 2011 is Monday October 10. I am arriving WEdnesday, Oct 5!!

Westjet has a nice 2 hour direct nonstop flight from Toronto to Sydney, Cape Breton. It's seasonal & runs a May to Oct...I can get exact dates of you want them.

Thanks, OB. NS is just one of the options we are considering. The 3rd week of October is set in stone, but the destination is not. Have to do some more research, but thanks for the info on the WestJet flights.

The 3rd week of October is perfect for leave watching in Cape Breton.

Although the weather can be unpredictable even for those, like me, who live here, that has been a pretty decent time the past few years on the Lighthouse Route and in Halifax.

It is sweater weather and you should bring raingear and umbrellas. But it can be absolutely delightful.

Last year on one of the weekends that fall into the period you mention, we walked a beach near Lunenburg and then had a sunset picnic.

After Thanksgiving, most places are closed for the season, including national parks and a lot of restaurants. Questionable as to whether or not there will be fall foilage that late. Depends on the weather we get in late September - if colder, the leaves will change quickly. Where are you flying from?

We have been 3 times in Cape Breton within the last 6 years. Once in the second week of October which was too early for the best fall foliage, twice in the third week which was just perfect.
