Northen Quebec/ James Bay
I know there is not much information on this topic, nor much tourism to this destination, but can anybody give me any information possible? It will be just me and my son and we plan to start in Ottawa. We dont mind spending a night or two in our car or tent. I would like to know is there any sort of hotels in that area? We plan to travel in mid July.

You can drive from Ottawa to Chisasibi on James Bay. It's about 1400 km and the road is paved, but there are few facilities along the way. Your best source of information is the Municipaility of James Bay website: http://www.municipalite.baie-james.q..._accueil00.htm
where you can find information on camp sites accommodation and activities.
I don't know what your interests are, but if you just want to see James Bay, you could also consider driving to Cochrane Ont and taking the Polar Bear Express train to Moosonee.

There are accomodations and gas in Matagami, the relay at km 381 and Radisson. There are also accomodations and gas at LG-IV and "probably" at LG-III. Get gas whenever you can. You can camp pretty much anywhere.
The road to Radisson is paved but the one towards LG-IV is dirt. If you go to radisson, a visit of the dam is a must.

Sorry I have nothing constructive to add to this post but it sure brought back memeories of when I was growing up in Northern Quebec and all the guys would go work up at LG-whichever! And we are going back some 25-30 years! And laverendrye's name made me think of those awful trips through the park when it was just a nightmare to travel to Montreal or Ottawa! Hope you enjoy your trip. It is indeed the "north".
