The Inn was very nice; no internet connection though.  The school of music is closeby and has a wonderful trendy cafe right next door; I also found the most beautiful florist and gift shop called Arenas a few blocks past the main street off broadway; the Spot cafe in the Chevrolet building is closeby.
Rochester is lovely, my hosts drove me through the town, there are wonderful green spaces and the port area is fantastic.

mitchdesj: I was hoping you would post a follow-up to your visit. I'm glad you enjoyed Rochester. I absolutely love Arena's and I'm glad you found it, as I didn't think to mention that, or Spot or the place next the the Eastman School. Did your hosts drive you around the Park Ave area at all? Rochester has alot to offer; I think it's underappreciated by persons who haven't been here.

Cher, you are quite right, it's under appreciated; yes my hosts did drive me through corn hill and across the bridge to that wonderful park, it gave me a great view of the skyline over the lake. As you can see I managed to find the cafes on my own; I think that if the downtown area would be more unified and developed commercially, it would help a lot; these things take time though, trying to get people back to the city, it's happened in Montreal , the downtown is more vibrant than ever but it took years and years.

mitchdesj, Got reading this thread a little late here, but I'm glad you had a good time in Rochester! We have some great things here, but it sort of takes an experienced host to help one find them. I don't know why the inn keeps such a low profile - lots of people here don't know anything about it! Come back soon - hopefully on the ferry .

wliw, yes indeed, Rochester is quite lovely;
I tend to explore new to me cities on foot and
discover where people like to hang out and shop; the Inn seems newly refurbished but does not have internet connecting in the rooms.
I should return next summer for a wedding.
