I am thinking of canceling our reservation at the "Hotel Quartier Latin"(between St.Denis and Ontario) and going to the La Residence du Voyageur at Sherbrooke. <BR><BR>From what I have read, the area where Voyageur is located at is much quieter and family oriented than where the the Hotel Quartier Latin is at. <BR><BR>Any opinion on the Voyageur Hotel and the surrounding area? <BR><BR>Any recommendation for a good French bistro/cafe for lunch?<BR><BR>Thanks for all - Victor

Yes, the Residence is in a much quieter neighborhood, but still quite close to all the excitement on St. Denis. Realize that although the Residence is in a very nice area, it is not a fancy hotel. It is a small, clean, simple hotel. The Residence is a short walk to Duluth St., my favorite area for restaurants in Montreal, and a short walk to Parc du Fontaine, if you need some greenspace. For lunch, you can try Cafe Cherrier which is close by, and very Parisian. There are so many interesting places to eat on St. Denis you will have trouble deciding!

Thanx for the advice on where to stay, responding to my question of the Loew's Hotel Vogue versus one of the boutique hotels in Old Montreal. I think we will probably stick with the Hotel Vogue, although I have been navigating around some of the other hotel sites, looking for a hotel with breakfast included. I think I got a decent rate for the Vogue - $225 Canadian - considering its reputation for being luxurious and costly. Anyway, I continue to read other postings, looking for advice on places to eat and things to do. This site has been a great help.

225$ is an excellent rate at the Vogue. Its a great hotel through and through; definitely one of, if not the best, hotel in Montreal. Its in a prime location, great restaurant and the hotel is quiet and luxurious. Go for it!

We just returned yesterday. We stayed at the Hotel Versailles on Sherbrooke West. We enjoyed it very much. The rooms were large and very nicely decorated with marble baths. We paid $159 CAD! It was a bargain for what we had. Really. We really liked the location - away from the hustle bustle of the bars and restaurants but very close to walk to St. Catherine & Crescent St to shop & dine. We drove all around the city very easily with a map. We felt very safe parking around the city. But a word to the wise... don't leave anything in your trunk - ours was broken into and we had a lot of our belongings stolen. We still had a great trip and really enjoyed our hotel.

Terri,<BR>I am [lanning a trip to Montreal and the Hotel Versailles Park Plaza looks like a very nice hotel. Considering either Versailles or the Intercontinental. Where did you book the room for $159 CAD? <BR><BR>Sorry to hear your car got broken into. Does the hotel offer parking?

George: The $159 was the AAA rate. Expedia. com had decent rates as well. The Chateau Versailles is part of the property and is located across the street. It is a four floor building with no elevator - those prices are a bit more expensive. I think the full name where we stayed is Hotel Versailles Park Plaza. It is about 9 floors with elevator and Le Matrisse restaurant. There is valet parking for about $15.00 CAD a day. If you go to Quebec City - Dominion 1912 is fabulous. That was about $202 CAD but absolutely one of the highlights of our trip.

We just got back from Montreal. We stayed four nights at the Nelligan and thought it was perfect. The location is great, not noisy, the hotel is new and beautiful and everyone associated with the hotel was so friendly. I can't imagine a better hotel in Old Montreal.

I'm taking a baseball vacation through Montreal and Toronto on the 18th-22nd, and was wondering what folks knew about the neighborhood around the Best Western Europa has to offer.I think it's on Drummond St? Also, I'm driving all the way from CT, anyone have an idea how many hours my journey will run, i.e., CT-Mont, Mont-Tor, Tor-CT?

Best Westermn Europa is right downtown, near rue Ste-Catherine. Close to everything. Lots of bars & clubs on nearby Crescent St. Metro: Peel (green line).<BR><BR>Hartford - Mtl = 6 hours<BR>Mtl - Tor: 6 hours <BR>Tor - Hartford: guessing 9 - 10 hours.<BR>
