Hello - we are looking for moderate Canadian, French or Italian restaurants in Old Montreal and Old Quebec. By moderate, I would like to have one glass of wine, either soup, salad or appetizer and an entree; no dessert for under $110-120USD/Couple plus tip. Is this doable? The hotel concierge seems to believe not. thanks!

In the thread, I suggested the tactic of searching out bring-your-own-bottle restaurants to keep costs moderate. Another poster endorsed Le P'tit Plateau, not byo but certainly worthwhile.
The Plateau area offers better budget-hunting than Old Montreal. Its central drag is Ave. St-Denis, running north from Sherbrooke up to and past Ave. Mont-Royal. Many of the restaurants are on sidestreets such as Pin, Roy, Duluth and Rachel.

On a trip to Quebec City last year we had good dinners at Le Lapin Sauté, Le Pain Béni, and Le Mistral Gagnant, spending about $100 for two at each of these.
We ate lunch at Aux Anciens Canadiens the day we left. The lunches and early dinner prices are very reasonable there
Friends have also recommended the Cafe St-Malo which seemed to be in your price range

In Montreal Le Grand Comptoir is a small very reasonable bistro in the downtown area.

I just came back from a nice meal (moules et frites) at the Pub d'Orsay on rue de Buade in Québec City. It has a good menu, great atmosphere and reasonable prices. I usually have a meal here whenever I'm in Québec.

Will be dining tomorrow at la Cremaillère on rue Ste Anne which has never disappointed.

On a recent visit to Montreal with friends who had criteria similar to yours, Modavie in Old Montreal was recommended and it fit the bill perfectly.
