Highly recommend the Stone Road Grille, a little out of the way spot that was fabulous for dinner, but also serves lunch. They're closed Mondays but open year round, at the corner of Mississauga and Mary Streets. It's in a plaza under a very inconspicous sign that says REST...

Saw a glowing review in the Toronto Star and Tawse Winery recommended it, but otherwise would never have known it was there. Just a gem.

Peller and Hillebrand wineries have lovely dining rooms, overlooking vineyards in locations just outside the town. In Niagara on the Lake itself try Zees, Queens Landing or Tetley's at the Moffat Inn. There are patios at the first two if it's a nice day.

I've had lunch and dinner at Peller Estates and dinner at Hildebrand.

Peller Estates was by far the best dining experience.

I would agree with Peller and Hillebrand restaurants if you don't mind going outside of "downtown" NOTL and want "proper restaurants" - great food and atmosphere at both (personally I also prefer Peller ) If you have time, take a vineyard tour at either one before or after lunch.

If you want a quick lunch or a snack in NOTL, try the Epicurean - a small cafeteria-style restaurant on the main street in NOTL near the opposite end from the Festival Theatre (hopeless with compass directions, sorry). The atmosphere is more cafe than cafeteria and it makes a good quick and casual lunch, afternoon snack etc. stop. It does excellent sandwiches, homemade quiche, salads etc. for reasonable prices and has the advantage you can just pop in if you are wandering in NOTL.
