"xxx" - I think that Jeanine understands that Yarmouth isn't close to CB and that she is simply asking for recommendations for both locations.
In Yarmouth, Murray Manor used to be very nice, but it has changed management since I visited. It's on a hill right above the ferry. It's quite lovely and convenient, but did have shared baths. There are several hotels nearby if a b&b doesn't appeal.
What area of Cape Breton are you visiting?

There are a few suggestions for Cape Breton inns in the recent thread entitled "Cape Breton Itinerary".

i, Jeanine! Lucky you -- NS is a lovely province! We just got back. Is this your first trip to Nova Scotia? There's a lot to see! Yarmouth is nice, but there are even prettier places to stay, and break up your trip (it's a 7-hour drive to Cape Breton). Also, the Fundy and Atlantic coasts are very different, and both worth a visit.

For an Atlantic stay, we loved the Oak Island Resort in Western Shore, near Chester (about 1 hour from Halifax). The "Oak Island" in question is the (in-)famous "treasure island" featured in books and on TV; seekers have tried for 3 centuries to find the treasure, and are about to have another "go". The resort itself overlooks Oak Island (and the 364 other islands of Mahone Bay). It's relaxed and lovely; the staff is friendly, the food is delicious.

On the Fundy Coast, we loved the Train Station Inn, in Tatamagouche, just north of Truro. The owner, at age 18, bought the Tatamagouche train station at auction, and proceeded to restore it and convert it to a B&B. He then purchased a number of cabooses, which he turned into fantastic "cottages", some with fireplaces and kitchens. A unique place to stay!

As for Cape Breton, we always stay in the Delta Sydney -- which, tho not a B&B, has lovely, harbor-view rooms, great service, and fantastic breakfast-buffets.

A final recommendation -- be sure to get the "Doers and Dreamers" guide from the NS government. It's crammed with helpful info on the various "trails", or tourism regions, incl. those on Cape Breton.

Hope that helps!!! Please feel free to contact me privately if you'd like more info. Best regards -- Susan
