Knight Inlet Lodge?
Any recent experiences at Knight Inlet Lodge? A search on this forum brings up old posts which rave about it. Is it worth the big price tag? How many days minimum to enjoy all it offers? Can its pick up site in Campbell River be reached easily if I fly into Vancouver, or will I need to rent a car? Or what other alternatives for someone coming from the East Coast?

Susie,
If your primary reason for visiting the lodge is to see grizzlies and killer whales you can do the same from the Port McNeill area of Vancouver Island on day trips, "Right about now" and for the next few weeks is prime grizzly watching season and good for killer whales as well.
cheers
Jerry

Thanks Jerry, other than the grizzlies and whales (which I've been lucky enough to see at other locations) I'm trying to see if the total experience of being at the Knight Inlet Lodge is as great as it appears and worth the money.

I have seen the Knight Inlet Lodge during a boat trip (day trip) into the Knight Inlet last year. The Knight Inlet Lodge is a floating Ldoge on a wooden platform at the end of the inlet. There are no hiking trails, but you can participate in the activties (whale whatching, bear viewing, sea kaying, fishing), but there is no much, what you can do beside this.
Access to the bear viewing platform is only possibe from the opposite side of the inlet. You will always need a boat to cross the inlet, if you want to access this area.
The Lodge is accessible by floatplane from Campbell River. You have to stay in a Hotel in Campbell River, as the floatplanes will start early in the morning towards the Knight Inlet.
You can also take a water taxi from Telegraph Cove or Port McNeill, but the lodge does not offer this as a package solution.
Best time for visiting is September and October, as you can see the arriving salmon and bears eating salmon.

I noticed your interest at Fodors and wanted to let you know that over 2000 guests this year have been to Knight Inlet lodge and not one person was unhappy. There is no experieince like it and you can be sure that the rewards for you are fantastic. There is no alternative in Canada to Knight inlet Lodge but do not be fooled by the cheap imatator at Sailcone Wilderness Adventures who calls himself Knight Inlet Lodge. This is not the real thing.
