Jasper - Advice on Accommodations
Anyone stay at Beckers or Bear Hill? If so, your feedback please. One is in town to walk to restaurants, and the other we would have to drive. Going to be in Jasper for 7 nights. Anyone go on any wildlife tours? If so, which one, and your feedback. Did anyone see moose, bear, or caribou?

Beckers is south of the townsite by about 4 miles or so. So you would need to drive unless you like to walk.
I hope you don't bored with Jasper and 7 nights. No, you will not see all that much wildlife, but you might see a oose or an elk. I never heard of caribou in Jasper.
Your chances of seeing a bear are slim, but you never know.

I recently spent 1 nite in Jasper and after that, I was anxious to get back to Lake Louise and Banff areas. Unless you have a lot of wilderness or recreational activities planned near Jasper, the town itself is worth one or two days stay. I would recommend spending the other days on the Icefield Parkway, Lake Louise, Banff and all the sights near those areas.

I go to Jasper every year and would have no problem staying a week...There are ton's of things to do...Some of my suggestions are Mount Edith Cavell, Miette Hot Springs, Pyramid Lake, Jasper Tramway, white water rafting, taking a drive to Columbia Icefields, renting a boat on Lac Beavort (sp?)at the Jasper Park Lodge, taking a drive to Maligne Lake and Maligne Canyon, strolling around the townsite over and over again, driving and enjoying the scenery...The list goes on and on I could possibly not see anyone getting bored in a week unless you don't like nature...You have a good chance on seeing a bear on the drive up to Miette Hotsprings, where you will also see Mountain Goats...More than likely you will see alot of elk...I would recommend Pine Bungalows, which are rustic cabins right on the Athabasca River, complete with kitchen's, full bathroom, fireplace and great views...If you want to be right in town, there is nothing wrong with Bear Hill..There are tour agents around town, so check with them when you get there and have a great time.

Becker's Chalets are approximately 3 miles south of Jasper townsite, next to the Athabasca River.
There are plenty of things to do in Jasper - even shopping, if that's how you would rather spend your vacation.
The major difference between Jasper and Banff is that in Jasper there is a decided lack of crowds and traffic.
The Jasper Tramway up Whistler Mountain provides a spectacular view of the Athabasca Valley to the north and east, and a peek at the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies (Mt. Robson) 65 miles to the west.
There is a scenic boat cruise on Maligne Lake that goes all the way to Spirit Island.
Athabasca Falls is a thundering waterfall just off the Icefield Parkway not far from Jasper.
Mt. Edith Cavell with Angel Glacier is an easy hike that most anyone could do.
You could do a raft ride down the Athabasca River - the sections with rapids are very exciting!!!
The list is endless.
It is quite likely that you will see a bear - probably a black bear - while in or around Jasper. Saw one today, munching on some shoots and berries along the road to Pyramid Lake.
Moose are shy but you may see one in the early morning hours.
You will also see lots of deer, mountain sheep, maybe elk (lots around Becker's Chalets).
If you like quiet and nature, rather than noise and crowds, Jasper is the place to be!!
P.S. - Caribou live much further north, in the Yukon and Alaska.
