How soon to book train between Montreal and QC?
We will be travelling between the two cities during late Spetember. How soon should we book or can we buy that very day?
Any other train travel tips are much appreciated.

Unless something special is going on in the cities that day, I think you should be fine getting tix that day. I don't know how the new airline restrictions will affect air travel btwn them so you can do a test for a few days and go to the train's website and try to get tix for the same day at the time you want to leave and see what availability is like.
As for other tips, get to the train stn a bit early so that you have time to buy a snack/picnic items for the train ride. We got yummy treats at the train stn and avoided the not so exciting stuff offered on board.
Enjoy-la!

If you are seniors, you can book earlier to get the special rate (one goes free). They just have so many of those rates. We've booked ahead and were lucky enough to get the special rates.
However, if you're not Seniors, you can wait! Get on the website and look around and check out the different rates etc. It's a very good website with lots of information.
Have fun!

If you're sure of exactly when you want to go, unless rules have changed, I'd book a week in advance as it'll be cheaper.
If however you want the flexibility to change your mind about times, I don't think it'll be booked solid, so you should be able to purchase at the last minute. Even if I'm wrong, you can always take the perfectly fine Orleans Express bus (a Quebec intercity bus line) from Station Centrale in Montreal to Quebec City's central bus station (the bus station is the same as the train station) in a worst case scenario.
Enjoy! DAN

One way full fare is $74. Discounted fares of $47 and $54 are available at least 5 days in advance. Discounted fare classes on popular trains do sell out well before that. For $138 you can go first class having a nice meal with all the alcohol one could reasonably want included in the fare. I would book in advance, get a discounted fare and pack a picic meal to eat on the train. The discounted fares can be cancelled or changed for a $10 or $15 service charge depending on the discount class so it is not like you are stuck if plans change.
