The Battery Hotel has regular rooms at $125.00 CDN per night in July on their website.
Great view of the harbour from their location. A fairly long walk [downhill] to Water Street etc downtown....and a heck of a walk back uphill after an evening out. But a very short car ride downtown and a couple of minutes by car from Signal Hill.
The Quality Inn downtown had rooms for July at $154.00 CDN when I spoke to them a week or so ago. Very convenient to everything downtown.
cheers

We stayed at the Fairmont last July for only about 150 US. We were on the top floor overlooking the battery. Unbelieveable veiw. Edward, you may want to think about staying at a B&B instead of a hotel though. There are probably 20+ that are very centrally located. One of the advantages is the host/hostess is usually a reliable source of travel advice in the province, plus you mingle with the other guests and it is just great sharing info and stories of travels in the province. We stayed at one on Gower Street, Bonne Esperence. It was cheaper than the Fairmont, perhaps $100-120 CN and it was a 5 to 15 minute walk from everywhere we wanted to go in town. You can easily walk to Signal Hill from there too. If you get a copy of the Labrador & Newfoundland Travel Guide it lists all of the B&Bs. There were at least 3 others on Gower Street.

We have stayed in a wonderful B&B 3 times. It's called 'The Roses' and it's very central, located very near Hotel Newfoundland. We were able to walk all downtown and also up the Battery path to Signal HIll. Great location, great B&B, Patrick is a great host.
Good luck and enjoy Newfoundland.
