I am trying to decide between 2 Jasper hotels--Astoria and Athabasca--for 2 nights in September. Any suggestions? Thanks.

i haven't stayed at either one but they are both quite old and i think the athabasca is loud. i'm sure the price is cheap but if you can afford a few more $ then you might want to consider others.

When we stayed in Jasper a few year ago, we stayed in a B&B within walking distance of the main street.

Hi, Jane,<BR> If $$ is your motivation, I would suggest you look at a B&B in the townsite of Jasper instead - those two hotels are older, noisy, and where all the big bus tours park their hordes of foreign tourists. Tons of B&B's and a lot have private entrances. If you absolutely have to choose between those two hotels, Astoria would be my pick - it's been redone more recently and the Athabasca has one of the local hot nightspots/bars so it jumps late into the night there.<BR>ja

Just came back from Jasper spent two nights at Beckers Chalets. They have many different size cabins to choose from. They are very well kept right along the river very nice setting only a few miles from town and the restaurant is very good.

We stayed at the Pyramid Lake Resort last week and loved it. It's about 3 miles out of town and right on Pyramid Lake. We were able to hike and canoe (the hotel has canoes, rowboats, and paddleboats for rent) and just enjoy the beautiful views from our balcony.

I agree w/Carol. We just came back from 4 nights at Becker's Chalets just outside of Jasper and after driving through Jasper, we concluded that Becker's was the best place to stay. They offer many different accommodations (we had one of their new chalets for 2 w/kitchen and fireplace and it was perfect). I would think their prices would be about the same as the Astoria and Athabasca. Check out their web site (beckerschaletc.com). Have a great time (we found lots to do in the area).

If your objective is to save a few dollars, my take on the situation is that neither of these two antiquated places is a bargain. They are watering holes for backpackers and tend to be full of drunken college-aged kids.<BR>If that is what you are seeking, then I am sure you will find it.<BR><BR>If you are merely looking for good value, budget accommodations, then go to the Jasper Park web site and look under "Parks Approved Accommodations."<BR>Many private homes in Jasper have rooms, even small suites, to rent at less than motel prices. I just recently came from Jasper where we stayed in a place called Geike Suites.<BR>We had a comfortable bed, decent bathroom, a sitting area with tv and eating table, a sink, microwave, self contained hot water kettle, coffeee maker, and a small refrigerator for about $60 US a night. You can find cheaper rooms, too. <BR><BR>If you want more conventional commercial accommodations, two places just south of town have always struck me as nice, if a little pricey: Jasper House Bungalows and Becker's Roaring River. Becker's establishment consists of cabins on the Athabasca River.<BR>Many of the Jasper House cabins have a bedroom, sitting room, kitchen, and bath. Some even have 2 bedrooms.<BR>
