hiking within two hours of Toronto
My husband and I, both fairly rugged hikers, are staying in Toronto for four nights in August. We would then like to hike somewhere within two hours of Toronto. Any suggestions on where to go? Any suggestions on accomodations? We are going in August and I care more about scenery/waterfalls/great views than difficulty of the hike. Thanks!

go to brucetrail.org. It is a well maintained trail that runs from Niagara to the Bruce Penisula, most do just parts as day hikes others do larger areas & camp along the way. Some is meant for easy hikes others for the more experienced.
I'm partial to the Craigleith to Tobermory sections because that is the area I grew up in.

There are so many beautiful hikes. I agree, though, check out the Bruce Trail. It is very long, but you could easily do a couple of sections of it.
I like the parts that go through Halton region, just north of Burlington (west of Toronto) HIlton Falls hike is great. and also the Crawford lake section. The Mountsberg section hikes along the top of a beautiful canyon.
Also the forks of the Credit area is beautiful. It is up Highway 10, north west of Toronto and is also part of the Bruce trail.
West of Toronto is also a great area called Dundas Valley conservation Area and there are beautiful hikes in this area.
Please post again if you want more into on any of these areas. I'm not sure how much detail will be on the Bruce Trail web site. the trail goes thorugh all of the above mentione places. There are side trails in these places off the main trail.

Good. You will pass by Burlington on your way to Hamilton. There are some good hikes in the Hamilton region too. But I think just north of Burlington in the Halton Region of the Bruce Trail, you'll get more dramatic hikes. Aslo the Dundas Valley Conservation area that I mentioned is in Hamilton area.
Although NOTL is a quaint , touristy town and not to be missed, it isn't a particularly good hiking area. Unless there are hikes I don't know about. You may be ok if you go up onto the Niagara Escarpment.
Good luck and have fun.
