HELP--Visiting info on Niagara Falls (1st time)
I am planning on going to Niagara Falls early July (2 of us). We are flying into Buffalo and plan on renting a car to drive to our hotel (Sheraton Fallsview) which is 30 minutes away??? Plan on staying 4 days.
We want to definitely see the Falls and any activities around there. We also want to check out the casinos at night (is it safe)? Would it be better to rent a car for the 4 days or just take taxi from airport and then walk/public transportation the other days? Any other recommendations for us? I would appreciate any info.

We flew into Buffalo and rented a car from Budget, which was no problem. The drive is 30 minutes to N.F. There are so many pretty places to see in the area, you will need a car. We took a 20 minute drive to Niagara on the Lake and found it beautiful, with several places to stop along the way and enjoy the view. N.F.seemed safe to us with lots of folks from all over the world. Be sure to take good walking shoes that you don't mind getting wet and be prepared for lots of sea gulls. Have fun! We did!

wyokoyama, you do not need a passport. Check out this site for info: http://www.niagarafallstourism.com/
It suggests bringing a birth certificate as ID only. Enjoy your visit.

We had no problem in presenting our birth certificates and driver's license at the border crossing, which looks like a toll booth. By the way, there is a toll as you come from Buffalo, so have some change with you. Incidentally, we had no problem with American vs Canadian money once over the border. We used our credit card for most things. If cash was needed, American was accepted, and Candaian was given in change. Here's something to remember...if you walk across the Rainbow Bridge, which is a breath-taking experience, be sure to take your credentials with you, as you will need them to enter back into the U S side and be prepared for it to be very breezy that high up. We styed at the Sheraton Fallsview which had a spectacular view, but loved visiting the American side of the Falls. Less mist, so you could get a closer look of it, as well as the rapids. Lots of people and activity on the Canadaian side. More park-like on the U S side. To each his own.

Thanks all for all the great advise.
One last questions: Does anyone know the difference between Sheraton Fallsview and Sharaton On The Falls (besides the fact that Sheraton on the Falls is attached to Niagara casino)? I am really confused as to which one is better location to stay at for first timers.

wyokoyama, I think its just the locations that are different. The Fallsview overlooks the falls (directly in front) and the On the Falls is just a bit down the street but still looking out over them. Check out www.sheratonhotels.com for pictures.

please see my replies in the thread
. Which Niagara Falls Hotel? Sheraton on the Falls or Marriott Fallsview?
For many reasons i'm a fan of the Sheraton Inn on the falls.
The others are beautiful as well, but there are cons... depends on your needs, but for us,
Sheraton Inn on the falls, at Clifton Hills is our spot!
and the view is wonderful, and you can lay in bed and see both falls
just beautiful!!!
One word of warning you have to request your bed faces the falls!! haha
or your bed will face the bridge
never a problem, but sometimes you have to let them know....
also we prefer high up, the wind adds to the fun somehow
