Halifax accommodation
We will be travelling to Nova Scotia in July and will be spending our 1st 2 nights in Halifax. Any suggestions regarding accommodation, preferably "inns" or B & B's in the downtown area of Halifax would be appreciated. We will also be travelling to PEI and Cape Breton so if anyone has any recommendations for places to stay please let us know.

I stayed at Garden View B&B on a leafy street just north of the Commons and found it quite charming; you're about a 10-15 minute walk or so from the Citadel here and 20-25 minutes walk from the downtown waterfront. Buses also ply down Quinpool Road and Robie Street that take you downtown. The main drag Quinpool Road is close by with shopping and restaurants.
You may be able to find other places closer to downtown/the Victorian Gardens/Spring Garden Road.
Enjoy your time in a charming North American city!

Just a vibe... but a 20-25-minute walk to the waterfront seems like a bit of a haul for Halifax, but if you need a B & B then perhaps the options are limited.
Halifax is a fun little city and every bit worth exploring from a convenient home base.

I am total agreement with NWM...thats really a hike to the centre of things, esp. uphill at the end of a day. Does it have to be an inn/B&B? The best places to stay in the way of locale (Spring Garden Road or the Harbour) are, like all big city rooms, most likely to be full service hotels.

If you don't mind hotels, I'd try priceline. There seem to be winning bids for 4* hotels, down by the harbour, at really reasonable rates.
Check out www.biddingfortravel.com for info and then place your bid through there, or www.priceline.com
I'm going to a conference in HAlifax in August, and will be using priceline.
If you would really prefer a B&B, then B&Bcanada.com (or maybe its bandbcanada.com?) is a great resource. I used them for our Quebec City and Newfoundland trips, and had great success. You might also check against the opinions at Trip Advisor.

Thanks for your suggestions, while in Halifax we will be staying at The Cambridge Suites, after we leave we will be staying at a variety of B&B's throughout Nova Scotia, Cape Breton and P.E.I. Some look very interesting such as the Lighthouse at Cape D'or and a little place at Neil's Harbour that we will use a base while hiking for a few days.
I'll let everyone know how things turn out when we get back.
