Good campgrounds around/south of Edmonton?

We have had an RV for 3 years - we bought it for a big trip to Ontario/Quebec the first year. Other than that trip we have mostly stayed in provincial campgrounds in Alberta (as that's the camping I was raised in, and my hubby is from Ontario).

We have almost 5 weeks of holidays this summer (2 weeks, a week back to work, then 2.5 weeks) but for personal reasons we need to stay within a few hours of Edmonton.

I am looking for some real-life recommendations for campgrounds other than provincial ones within a 2-4 hour drive of Edmonton. We've done Drumheller, Calaway Park, & the Banff route in BC. I am not at all interested in the mountains this year.

We have 5 kids, so I am looking for family friendly (i.e. has a a playground and the operator/host doesn't have a hate on for kids). I'm not worried about showers, pit toilets are fine, and I would LOVE to find somewhere that actually has treed in sites. Full hook ups are not necessary but power is great. We can deal with an RV park if there are some fantastic side appeals to it, or we can handle middle of nowhere, few amenities kind of places.

Any real-life recommendations would be really appreciated - we are getting really sick of the provincial parks!

Look at www.goodsamclub.com and www.koa.com as they usually have nice, family friendly campgrounds and Good Sam has LOTS of RV parks to choose from in Alberta. KOA are VERY family friendly, but not many of them in Canada. Don't know if it's too far for you to go, but there is a WONDERFUL KOA in Revelstoke BC.
Good luck, and have fun!!

Certainly understand the hope for treed in sites! and hope you find a few. You could check out the Lions campground at Devon, which is on the North Saskatchewan River; Pigeon Lake Provincial Park has a couple of campgrounds although I recall the camping season won't be quite as long due to construction/improvements. Sir Winston Churchill Campground is north of Edmonton, on Lake Lac la Biche; and a campground in Elk Island National Park that takes reservations, I believe - if you want to commit to a stay there. =)
Happy travels, hope you find a great site and enjoy pleasant weather and good times with your kids.

... and I just re-read your question, sorry for the last two suggestions that are not *south* of Edmonton. Forgot to mention you could stay right in Edmonton at the small Rainbow Valley Campground - you'd not know you were in a big city.
