G20 Summit - June 25-27
In case anyone is planning to visit Toronto the weekend of the summit, I would say DON'T DO IT! (I'm assuming no anarchists or other protesters are reading this.)

Even the chip wagons have been banned from the area.
And all this for the princely sum of $1 billion! How could it possibly cost that much; I wonder if these people haven't heard of conference calls?

I agree with morningglory47. Personally I don't intend to be ANYWHERE even near the downtown for those days. I think it will be awful for anyone who has to go downtown.
My former employer is letting most staff work from home for those days.

As someone who lived through the september G-20 summitt in Pittsburgh it is best to stay away. Downtown area where i live was blocked off to all vehicle traffic, pedestrian traffic was allowed to within 3 blocks. Most businesses closed, a pity since there was very little anarchy.

We are just outside of Algonquin. You can reach the park from our end out of Whitney. But for the full week before and during you cannot access from Huntsville http://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/news/g8.html
for details on access to Algonquin see above Link!

see this map. It shows what traffic is allowed through. So, yes you can take 35 to 60. The 117 is for trucks only and the 118 is for through traffic.
Ugh!! Bet everyone will be glad to see this mess over. We have guest telling us already that they took longer to get through becuase of the fences and such being set up already.

Hi, purely, unadulterated, assinine idea to hold a summit in downtown Toronto. If Harper thought he had little support here before he's certainly going to have concrete evidence of it after this disaster. Idiot.

<<Darlene, I just heard on CBC this morning that the people in Huntsville were happy to have it there, re all the business it will bring. No?>>
I'm sure that the people of Huntsville are happy. For a couple of days of inconvenience, they will enjoy the results of Tony Clement spreading tens of millions of dollars around the riding on the pretext of the summit--a new hockey arena (ahem "press centre") a new university campus, new roads and bridges nowhere near the conference site, and even refurbishing an antique steamboat. Taxpayers in the rest of the country will be helping "Steamboat Tony's" electoral prospects.
