from Vancouver airport...
I'm thinking about saving on rental cars for our last 2 days of our trip (we'll be in the city most of the time) since it adds 2 rental car days when all we need to do is come and go from the airport. We (3 of us) are staying at the Plaza 500 Hotel 500 w. 12th avenue. Opinions on the best/most cost effective (with some luggage) way to get back and forth from the airport- approximate costs appreciated. Thanks.

Clarifications: my plan is to arrive xmas day, but rent on Friday from a city location of Budget at 855 Kingsway, which appears to be very close by (is that a walkable close by, or a better to take a cab location?)- so that I return the care to the city location.
The hotels suggests a cab from the airport at ~$25 CAD but they also recommend Enterprise which is not the most economical rental (and the city location is closed on the pickup day - Boxing day and my return day- Sunday), so I trust my fodorites first...

I just drove that exact route-along 12th and then up Kingsway-it would be about an easy 30 minute walk.
Note that both 12th & Kingsway can be busy noisy streets I suggest taking 14th Ave for a quiet walk through residential streets
Since there's no shuttle a taxi to/from the airport is your best bet-where are you going that you need a car the whole time you're here?
Most visitors find a car to be something of a PITA if they spend most of their time in the city.

Thanks Sam. We are going for a family celebration so we have to get back and forth to relatives homes, synagogue, etc. some of the time. I think for getting around just touristy things we'll use public and feet. Thanks for the info.

Hi
There is public bus at the airport and it leaves every 15 minutes. The fare is 2.50 evenings and weekends and 3.75 Mon to Friday. EXACT COIN fare only.
Details on getting where you are going
Airport Bus 424 to Airport Station
Burrard Station Bus 98 to broadway.
Broadway bus 9 to Cambie
Then walk up to you hotel on 12 th Ave.
Taxi probably 30.00 $ and takes 25 minutes
Bus 2.50 $ and takes 40 minutes
Vancouver has pretty good bus service
