Fairmont Manoir Richlieu
My wife and I are deciding whether to splurge for a night at this historic hotel in mid-August. Would you recommend staying there? Is it an elegant place to stay or an overpriced tourist trap? Our room would have no river view - do any restaurants inside the hotel have river views?

I enjoyed this hotel very much, dont worry about the river view issue for your room, one of the restaurants (the expensive one) has a river view, as does the outdoor terrace. The grounds are lovely, the casino (if you are interested) is right there, the pool etc is nice. We stayed for 6 days (had only planned on two initially) and enjoyed it.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. We'll keep our reservation there, but it sounds like 1 night may not be enough. Do you recommend the expensive restaurant there or are there other preferred places in the La Malbaie area for dining?

I enjoy hte Manoir Richelieu very much as well. We stayed there 3 nights two years ago and fours nights last year. Also, there is an awesome golf course on the premises. The gourmet restaurant is called Le Charlevoix. You would not be disappointed to eat there. The Maitre d'hotel and staff are extremely knowledgeable about wine and food. They will be more than happy to discuss with you where in the region the veal or the veniso you are eating come from.
Have a great trip. You will not regret it!

SPLURGE! If you are from the States check out the monetary rate of exchange. Might not be as much as you think. My husband and I stayed there last Fall for two nights and loved it. At night you can swim in the salt water pool outside. We dined in the more causal dining area, had our 8 year old daughter with us, and wasn't that impressed with the food for the price. You'll have to get dressed up to go to the nicer restaurant. The next night we had room service and it was great. Request a river room/suite. Beautiful. The next day we drove up to Tadoussac and went on a Croisieres whale watching cruise. They take you through Fjord Saguenay-breath taking. Take warm clothes. We did not and ended up paying dearly for jackets on the boat. The temperture sure changes once you are out on the water. Enjoy your trip.
