Dutch people going to Banff

Hello,

We would like to visit Banff next week. What reasonably priced hotel could anybody recommend and how is skiing overthere? Also how much do ski-lessons cost? Is Banff a good idea in March. Will there be other psychos like us that are visiting Canada in winter?? Is there anything that we should absolutely know?
Thanks a lot for your prompt reply.
Greetings from 2 Dutchies that don't have a clue what they are going to do in Canada next week = not very well prepared...

Hi - what's your idea of a "reasonably priced hotel"?

There will be lots of other psychos just like you - not to fear!

Hi Elizabeth,

Thank you for your quick reply!!

We thought 75$ would be reasonable.
We would like to ask you some more questions: Will there be loads of tourists in this period of the year? Should we reserve rooms in advance? Are the prices in this time of the year much lower than in summer?

Thank you so much for your help. Are you a Banff psycho as well, or do you just know a lot about Banff?

Coletta and Iwan from Rotterdam, The Netherlands

I wish I could say I was an expert - I live in Toronto but have been to Banff several times. I'm going to do a search on this site and bring some relevant postings to the top for you - they'll likely have "Banff" in the title.

Here's a web site for a Bed and breakfast association -

http://www.bbalberta.com

There are several Bed and Breakfasts in Banff that are in your price range. This is a funny time in Canada - it's "Spring Break" for many high school and college students (a one week holiday). I'm not sure when Spring Break is out West (it varies across the country) - but I urge you to get your reservations as soon as possible. I'll post more sites as I come across them. Good luck!

I think you'll be OK next week for accommodation - in fact the week after Spring Break is typically quite quiet and you might be able to negotiate a bit.

Here's some web sites:

http://www.discoverbanff.com/

Follow the links to Banff Accommodation - there's several Bed and Breakfasts - this one fits your price range http://www.bluemtnlodge.com/home.html

Regarding Ski Lessons - here's an idea of pricing at Norquay:
http://www.banffskischool.com/adult.html

Hope the above helps! Are you planning to rent a car and drive from Calgary? If not, you might want to look into Accommodation/Transportation/Ski Pass packages - there are some links on the "Discover Banff" Web site.

Enjoy!
Welcome Dutch people. From the level Netherlands to the mighty Rockies - I think you've made an excellent choice no matter what the time of year!

I think I'd rather go in the summer! But it's such a stunning place I'd go any time.

If you want cheap accommodations, use the hostel. It's not just for youth, adults are welcome too. It's one of the best hostels in North America. Since you're going in March, there's skating up in Lake Louise. Skiing at that time is probably really great. I'm not too sure about skiing since I only lived there for one summer.
