Driving a rental car from USA to Canada and back

Hallo,
We plan to rent a car at one of the rental companies at the JFK Airport and to do a round trip over some parts of the USA and Canada. I am not sure that rental offices will allow to drive their car to Canada even if it will be dropped off at the same place as picked up.
Could anyone advise me about this?
Thanks in advance

Are you a US resident? If so, it should not be a problem with most rental companies. This article might help you in choosing:

Note that you should tell the company up front you plan to go to Canada with the car when you reserve it, and if your rental includes "unlimited milage" be sure to ask whether that includes Canada or only the US.

Given the potential differences in policies, you might be better off calling the companies that interest you rather than booking over the Internet or just waiting until you get to the airport.

I was afraid that might be the case.

Unless someone else on the forum can answer your question, it looks like you will have to do one of the following:

(1) Call the offices of US rental car companies in your home country, if there are any, and ask about their policies on non-US residents taking a US car into Canada.

(2) Look at websites for US car rental companies to find their e-mail addresses in the US, and e-mail them your questions.

(3) Contact a good travel agent, who should be able to tell you or find out for you.

(4) If all else fails, contact the US embassy or consulate near you and see if they can help you find out.

Are you required to obtain a visa to visit the US and/or Canada? If you need a visa for the US and leave to go to Canada, you might not be allowed back into the US again - so make sure you get the right kind of visa.

Thank you, Cranachin. We have both US and Canadian visas (US visas for multiple entries)
