Car rental for Montreal/Quebec City trip?
We are going to Montreal for 6 days July 20-26. I wanted to see Quebec City also. How to get there? If renting a car, where should I pick up? I don't want the car for city. I would like to drop off the car at the Montreal airport . How long would you stay in each place? I was thinking 4 nights Montreal and 2 nights Quebec city? I looked up the train, and it did not seem as convenient.

I found it cheaper to rent a car once we were leaving Montreal and to use it for our trip to Quebec City and Tadoussac (we go July 10-21). The train for three people was too expensive and not as convenient for us so I opted for renting a car. I will pick it up on the last day when we leave Montreal and I found a location close to our B & B to do that. We will be returning to Montreal also for our last night so I plan to drop it off at the same location instead of the airport. This might be inconvenient and I might change it to the airport if I think we will be arriving late on that last day. We plan 4 nights in Montreal, 4 nights in Quebec City, 2 nights in Tadoussac, and one more night in Montreal.

Hi Judyrem,
While there are only maybe four or five trains a day Montreal-QC, one of the Quebec bus-lines, Orleans Express, does run buses typically once an hour at ca. CAN$85 round trip, which may work better with your scheduling. Leaves from Montreal`s Station Centrale (metro: Berri-UQAM) with only one stop in Ste. Foy (Quebec City suburb) before it drops you off at the Gare du Palais in Quebec City, which is the same as the train station, which is right by the Basse Ville. Takes approximately 3 hours.
