Directions from Jasper to Kelowna and then Back to Edmonton

Hi all! Well we are finally going to drive to Kelowna this summer!! We live in Edmonton, but never seem to travel our own country, so i would really like some advice on the route.

First of all..we will be staying in Jasper for 3 nights, it is tradition to stay there every summer! We have a small dog with us...We would like to head from Jasper to Kelowna, via the Coquihalla Highway but stay a night in between...Any suggestions?

ON the way home we will go the other way...and travel back to Edmonton via Revelstoke, Banff, etc...Any suggestions on where to stop in between Kelowna and Banff?

And keep in mind we need pet friendly accommodations, i have looked up the Pet Friendly website, however, would still like some advice.

Thanks

Tracy

Unless you just want to be able to say you've driven the Coquihalla, there's no need to take it to go from Jasper to Kelowna. In fact, you'd be going beyond Kelowna and have to backtrack quite a ways.

You could take the Yellowhead (#5) to Kamploops and then head back east on the Trans Canada (#1) to #97 south to Kelowna. Alternatively, you could drive south from Jasper on the Icefields Parkway and get on the #1 at Lake Louise. You have the choice of turning south at Sicamous or Salmon Arm.

Actually the Coquihalla and connector is quicker than Hwy 1 and 97. I would recommend your plan via Coquihalla as you would be driving the 97 and Hwy 1 on your way back via Banff.

We stay at the Coast Hill Crest in Revelstoke as we also have a dog but it is an easy drive in one day from Kelowna to Banff.

Thanks for the replies.. Where would one stop for an overnight if we took the Coquihalla? And is there any points of interest along the way? We would like to take a different route each way, and we have been down the Banff/Jasper Hwy a million times so it is not necessary on this trip!! Thanks again!!

The drive to Kelowna from Jasper is around 7 hours so you could easily make it in one day. Kamloops would be the only feasible stop if you wanted a shorter day. The coquihalla isn't really all that scenic so I would opt drive right to Kelowna and spend your time in that area.
