cruise excursions

I will be on a cruise through New England and Canada in the beginning of sept. What would you suggest for Halifax and St. John? Should we take the cruise excursions or are we better off doing our own thing; taking our own city tours and the like...

Depend on what you like to do? In Halifax, there is plenty to see in the city for a day. You can walk almost anywhere from the cruise terminal. When cruise lines are in, it is sometimes difficult to get on various excursions such as the Harbour Hopper because they have them mostly booked. If you want to go out to Peggy's Cove, probably your best bet would be with a tour. You would need to hire a taxi otherwise and it might get more expensive.

In St. John's they do have several cab companies that offer 1 to 2 hour tours. They will basically take you to SIgnal Hill, etc. and give you time to look around. Signal Hill is quite a hike and unless you are very fit, you probably would prefer to get a cab.

I actually think it is probably stopping in Saint John NB not St. John's NFLD?

If Saint John NB I would say take an excursion to St. Andrews or something like that...the city itself has some nice areas but I think it best to leave the city

My friends own a beautiful Inn in
St Andrews. If you want to check it
out while you are there for possibly
a future stay on a land trip, let me
and I will post website. It's a beautiful 18 room inn, he is a chef
from Switzerland and his wife
Graziella will make you feel very
welcome and special.

To All Who Have Replied,
Thank you for all of your suggestions!!! We are looking into renting a car in Halifax and going out to Peggy's Cove. Any pros or cons? Sherri1, I would love to know more about that Inn. Thank you again.

www.rossmountinn.com

Beautful Inn. I doubt that you could
be there for dinner, but as I think
I mentioned before, Chris is the
chef as well as owner and takes
GREAT pride in what goes on the plate in front of you. Read some of the reviews on Trip Advisor and
go to there website to see pictures.
If you have the time, or would have in the future, you can hike/walk to the top of their mountain. Ross Mountain . Takes about a leisurely hour to the top and the views are beautiful from up there. With a little planning and
a phone call ahead, Im sure they could have a nice little picnic lunch for you to take.

I could go on and on, let me know
if you want more info/ details...
