Canada entry requirements for child
We're US citizens, planning a cruise that travels from Alaska to Vancouver. One of our party is a 5 year old child who has no passport. Do I understand that a birth certificate suffices to let the child enter Canada? Has anyone tried this lately with success?

A quick Internet search turned up this Canadian government statement http://travel.gc.ca/travelling/children/children-travel
Remember that travel documentation works in both directions and you must be concerned with your own government's policies for re-entry.

<<all children, no matter the age, require a passport>>
This is simply incorrect, both for entry to Canada and re-entry to the US. Here are the relevant regulations for Canada and the US.
