I only have time to go to Cabot Trail or PEI. What are the advantages of both? It will save on driving to go to PEI but am I missing the best views of Nova Scotia? Julie

Cabot Trail = breathtaking scenery, great hiking, whalewatching, friendly people, music,interesting museums and history.

PEI = peaceful, pastoral scenery, warm water, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farms, amusement areas, fishing, music, church suppers, wonderful bike trail system, friendly people.

Yes, I believe that you are indeed missing the best views in NS if you don't do the Cabot Trail, but PEI is a worthy destination in its own right.

I confess that I enjoy NS more than PEI, but that's just my personal opinion.

Dear Julie, Both have amazing things to offer PEI has Anne Of Green Gables Nova Scotia has the Cabot Trail which is a must see. Its truely Unique in what it has to offer, 185 miles of the most breathtaking scenery anywhere in the world. Be prepared for a trip that takes you from rugged Coastline to Majestic Mountain Ranges to our beautiful Rolling heartland, you'll see on this trip pods of whales close to shore playing in the summer heat, check out the sky to see eagles soaring over head, also see moose which are common along this route. This is just something to look forward to when seeing the Cabot Trail.

I meant to say Anne of Green Gables of course! I'm not sure where "Sunnybrook Farms" is, but I don't think it's in PEI!

I have a feeling that you won't get a 'definitive' answer on this question. When we were planning a trip last September, we heard from fans of both places. We ended up not going to either because of time limitations, so it just means we'll have to go back again and see both!

Thanks for the info, I think we will go the Cabot Trail route. I just have to decide where to stop over now. I am thinking from the CAT to Halifax for one night, then Keltic Lodge then to Cheticamp then back to Halifax or Pictou (what do you think?) then to Digby and back to the CAT. How does this sound? Is it too much driving?

Hi, Julie! That's a lot of driving!!!! B/c the Cabot Trail seems to be your main interest (Your original post asked about CT or PEI) wld. you consider flying into Sydney, NS & renting a car to focus on the Cabot Trail?
What time of year will you be travelling? Keltic may already be fully booked for the summer! Sydney airport car rentals book early too as do flights.

I am starting out in NYC then flying to Boston then picking up a car and driving up the coast of Maine and taking the cat and car to NS then on with the drive. I will already have the car. What do you think? Julie

I have a room in at the Westin Halifax then straight to Keltic Lodge then ending up in Digby. I already have those three rooms. Julie

Hi again! Well...as I said it is a lot of driving...especially if starting out in Boston!!!!! I wouldn't do it that way but, hey!...I hate driving! If your main focus is the Cabot Trail, I think this is a very "driving intensive" way to do it. But, if you want to stop & explore along the way then I guess it will work for you. Me? I wld. fly NYC to Hfx, get a connecting flight to Sydney in Cape Breto, pick up my rental car in Sydney (Avis, Hertz & there's a 3rd...maybe Budget???) & drive from there.

Hi Julie, Halifax to the keltic lodge isn't that long of a drive. Halifax to Sydney is approx 4 1/2 to 5 hrs It would be about the same from halifax to the keltic as long as you went through the englishtown / St. Ann's way (not through cheiticamp first.)From the keltic lodge you could travel north to cheticamp & to then back to pictou or where ever you'd like to go. I don't think there would be any more driving time than usual. It would roughly be arround 6 hrs to do what you wanted in driving time. Mind you, you will have to stop for dinner & I didn't include that time. Hope this helps. By the way enjoy the island
