best restaurants in Quebec City
My husband and I are going to Quebec (2 days in Montreal, 2 days in Quebec City) for Thanksgiving and we'll be staying at the Auberge st Pierre in Quebec City. <BR>Any advice for great restaurants? (I have heard of the Marie-Clarisse. Has anyone eaten there?) What about best places to have a drink?<BR>Merci!

P & P,<BR><BR>After reading and hearing how great Marie Clarisse was, my girlfriend and I ate there in September: what a disappointment. The dining room was very nice and rather romantic but the food and service were mediocre at best. Because of all the positive things I've read and heard about this restaurant (my folks ate there a month before we did and loved it!) it is certainly possible they were just having an off night--every restaurant has one once in a while.<BR><BR>Our favorite restaurant experience in QC was Le Saint-Amour. Fantastic Haute cuisine with a lighter touch served in a beautiful room (ask to be seated in the Winter Garden!). Here we enjoyed such delicacies as escargot stew (served with spinach and pine nuts in a garlic cream sauce) exquisitely prepared foie gras, sweetbreads and rack of lamb. Exceptional desserts and wine list as well.<BR><BR>We checked out L'Initiale but the menu was just a little too "long hair" for my date.<BR><BR>Other recommendations:<BR><BR>Le Continental: Classic French including flambe's<BR><BR>L'Echaude: Great mediterranean cuisine<BR><BR>Meclun: Wonderful French provincial<BR><BR>Have a great trip, it's a wonderful city!<BR><BR>Davidcs<BR><BR>

Hi,<BR><BR>My husband and I spent (Canadian) thanksgiving there this year. We ate at L'Initiale (best food), Le Saint-Amour (most romantic) and le Marie Clarisse (delicious seafood). The only downside of Le Saint Amour was that it was quite loud in there. If you, make sure to request a table under the glass dome.<BR><BR>Enjoy!

x,<BR><BR>When we refer to "long hair" we are referring to the culinary equivalent of "experimental" jazz. Too many (in our opinion) different strange things (notes, ingredients) thrown together in odd combinations. Don't get me wrong, we will eat just about any cuisine in the world (and have) and enjoy most of them, however, some chefs tend to "experiment" more than others and we noticed that the menu at L'Initiale relied rather heavily on Anise--and other herbs we're not particularly fond of--for many of their dishes. <BR><BR>That said, though, our hotel recommended it highly and their menu changes seasonally.<BR><BR>Hope this helps,<BR><BR>Davidcs

If your plans include a drive to Ile d'Orleans I suggest taking a right after the bridge to the end of the island, there is a wonderful little Inn that has a nice little restaurant. I am having a brain fart right now and cannot remember the name, hopefully someone else reading this will. I shall try to find out for you tomorrow.<BR>A.M.
