Bay of Quinte/Bellville

We have recently been offered a home exchange in this area for late Spring. I have been reading the local websites for the area, but cannot make up our mind if this would be a good vacation spot for a month or so. It is midway between Toronto and Montreal, and not particularly close to either, ranging about 2-3.5 hours from each city. Any thoughts about the area would be appreciated. Although we enjoy wandering small lanes and villages,, we wonder if there would be enough to keep us entertained for a month. We like walking, but are not great hikers or bicyclists. Thanks.

BORING!!!! Please do not spend a month in Belleville. You'll go out of your mind. It's 3 hrs to Montreal & 2 hrs to Toronto. The only quaint area you may enjoy that's an hour east toward Montreal is Thousand Island area, but late spring isn't swimming weather. Kingston, a college town, is 1/2 an hr east & okay for a short visit due to its waterfront & history.

Thank you, Syl. We worried that there might not be enough to do. It looks like it may be TOO restful. Anybody else out there with a different opinion?

I know that part of Ontario quite well. For the better part of a decade, I was in Belleville and Kingston at least ten times a year -- I can't remember ever going early, or staying on for a day or two after my work finished.

You could spend a day wandering around Belleville, two more days in Prince Edward County, you could go to Kingston for the day, twice, go see the Rideau Canal system for a day's drive, go to Toronto for a couple of days, go to Montreal for a couple of days, go to Ottawa for a couple of days (the lst three all overnight trips, so you'd have hotel expenses), and you could drive down to Watertown NY and into the Adrirondacks for an overnight trip. (perhaps including Lake Placid and Saratoga)

Merrickville is worth a day triop, but probably the same day as seeing the Rideau Canal.

What's that add up to?

And there's a pretty run down, but free, airplane museum near the air force base in Trenton; allow two hours.

I think the Bay of Quinte is a lovely area, but like others have said, a month would be way too long.

Thank you, BAK. I think you did a pretty good job of detailing what is around, Bellville. And, thank you, too Susan. I think we are convinced that although it may be very pretty area , it may be a bit too relaxing for us and we will continue to look for other options.
