Maybe merck is a new name for that hornet poster who hates Toronto and thinks that the food courts in the Eaton Centre are haute cuisine.
Personally, I love Honest Ed's. I grew up around the corner, still work in the neighbourhood and still frequent the store.

Toronto: Just named/recognized as "The most miserable city in Canada"
(admittedly, per the ratings, that didn't amount to it being very 'miserable' on the grand scale at all)

I guess "slum" means different things to different people - last summer a newly-built slum dwelling in the heart of Kensington Market had a price tag of $750,000+.
