Looking for a GREAT weekend away from NYC for our 10th anniversary. Thinking of Toronto; we've already been to (and loved) Quebec.

We are in our mid-30s - looking for an EXCELLENT hotel (ie comfy beds, great restaurant, nice bar) and some nightlife, etc.

Does toronto fit the bill? Or, any other suggestions?

Montreal (assuming you meant that your previous trip was to Quebec City)

I would recommend Niagara on the Lake... its about 90 minutes from Toronto in the heart of the Niagara wine region... top flight hotels and spa... 15 minutes from the Falls and Casino... amazing theatre and dining...high romance.. you could side trip to Toronto... or....

Start in Toronto and side trip to Niagara on the Lake... less romance in Toronto to amazing day in wine country...

either way look at flights to Buffalo and rent a car (if you are not already driving) happy planning...

go to toronto - it fits the bill

stay at: the hazelton or le germain

eat dinner at: lucien, canoe, or colborne lane for high end romantic, classy fare

eat dinner at: pizzeria libretto, the black hoof, or oyster boy for good food and hipster watching

eat dinner at: blowfish, buca, lee or ame for high end trendy fare - these places generally turn lounge-y later on

eat brunch / lunch at: the ceili cottage, school bakery, saving grace, or the hoof cafe

nightlife: stick to king / queen west (west of spadina generally) or yorkville

a day trip to the vineyards of niagara would be great as well - best wineries are closer to beamsville rather than heading right into NOTL.

Another question - would Montreal be better for a long weekend than Toronto, or same difference? Pros and cons of either?

'better' is kind of a subjective term. is DC better than Boston? kinda depends...

other than a nice hotel, what do you want to do?

montreal is a little more 'european' i suppose. both have great restaurants and nightlife. both cities have lots to see and do during the day.

when are you going to travel? winter in montreal is brutal, less so in toronto. montreal (and area) is more beautiful in fall.

Aha! i answered my own question - its the toronto film festival the dates we were looking at so nearly impossible to get a reservation - thanks for all the input, looks like we'll do Montreal this time and save Toronto for our next trip!
