14 day itinerary -NS, PEI, NB 4 senior citizens
Four senior citizens are planning a trip to NS,PEI & NB in early September. Will fly to Halifax, rent a car and sightsee for 12 days. Not interested in hiking, biking, or expensive places to stay. Moderate accomodations, B&B's are fine. Our rough plans follow. Would appreciate suggestions, alternatives, good reasonable places to stay and eat.
Day 1 fly from NC to Halifax. Arrive late. Date 2 Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg & some Halifax sights.
Day 3 East coast drive by Liscomb to Baddeck
Day 4 Cabot Trail back to Baddeck
Day 5 To Louisbourg, Caribou, ferry to Wood Islands, stay in Charlottetown
Day 6 Day tour NNW to PEI National Park, North Cape
Day 7 Day tour NE corner of PEI
Day 8 Confederation Bridge to NB- see Hopewell Rocks, Fundy Trail Parkway. Stop in Saint John
Day 9 Saint John to St. Andrews
Day 10 Campobello Island, Mount Desert Island to Bar Harbor
Day 11 Arcadia National Park, Cadillac Mountain
Day 12 CAT ferry to Yarmouth. Stay in Digby
Day 13 Digby Neck, Evangeline Train, Annapolis Basin. Stay ??
Day 14 ? to Halifax, more sights there
Day 15 Fly out mid afternoon for NC
I'm sure this itinerary has lots of holes in it, but would appreciate your help.

dear jwade, you have a lot of ground to cover. on day 3 & 4 you will be staying in baddeck the prices for B&B's in Baddeck would be approx. $120 cdn a night, not cheap but going rate for that area. Day 5 baddeck to louisbourg is approx an hour & 20 min to louisbourg from louisbourg to Caribou approx. 5 hrs & then on to charlottetown.thats a full day hope this helps a bit. have fun & enjoy

I am not sure how to improve your itinerary but I do think you will be really busy on this itinerary. Have you considered a tour?
I am from NB, so I will tell you more about our area...Saint John is not really the most attractive city in the world. I would consider maybe staying in Moncton instead. You could do Hopewell rocks from there. Maybe the next day drive to St. Andrews or go see the islands. I think instead of going to Maine, you should go back to Saint John and take the Digby Ferry instead. If you can work it out I do think in NB, you should try to get to Fredericton. We are the capital, and I think the prettiest city in NB for sure. By cutting out Maine, you could do something like Confederation Bridge to Fundy seeing hopewell rocks and the park. Next day drive to Fredericton, see the sights here, drive to St. Andrews and go to some of the islands from that area. Drive to Saint John and take the ferry to Digby.

JWade, could not believe your note as there are 4 of us, also sr. citizens, planning on travelling to your locations the end of August and 1st week in September. We are just now developing our itinery. We've decided not to do Maine, but everything else on your schedule is on ours. We fly into Halifax and think we will go directly to Lunenburg to spend the night, then up to the north coast, Digby, ferry to St. John, Fundy Trail to Confederation Bridge, PEI, Ferry to Pictou. On for at least 3-4 days to Cape Breton, staying at Baddeck; then back to Halifax for whatever days we have left over. Our trip is for 18 days.
Any thoughts on this itinerary??? Wonder if we can do all of Cape Breton from Baddeck or will be have to move to Louisbourg for a night?

Dear ann in atlanta, You could do all of Cape Breton Island from Baddeck with no problem. But I think you would like to stay in Louisbourg for a night at the very least. Its a small town with quite a history. Its quite charming with nightly entertainment at the Louisbourg Playhouse. I would suggest that you stay at the Spinning Wheel B&B which is just a short stroll from down town & from the fortress.

May I suggest you look into the MacRae House while in Baddeck. It is a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath home right in the village - a few minute walk from the water. We stayed there last year and for the price of a hotel $169/night plus taxes, you will find it quite comfortable. Call the Telegraph House and confirm reservations. It is not advertised. You will find it the cleanest place you have ever stayed. The owners live next door.
I agree with the previous post, you would enjoy Louisbourg. It is most amazing when you see it. It is a long day and lots of walking once you arrive on the actual site. Don't forget to take a sweater as it can sometimes be very cold.

probibly not. Moncton to Fredericton is 1 1/2 hours, Fredericton to St. Andrews is 1 1/2 hours, and St. Andrews to Saint John is 1 hour. I am not sure how long the ferry is to Campebello. That would be too much driving, and not enough sight seeing
