Uluru with rental car
Hi we are spending 2 nights at Uluru do you think is better to rent a car at the airport than local tours? we want to visit the most possible but don't like 30 people on a bus tours...

I think you would get more out of your trip with a guide because they will know & point out things that you would walk right past without knowing what you were looking at.
If you contact the Cultural Centre at Uluru, there are excellent Aboriginal guides who do small group tours.

Intially, we didn't get a car when we were there, there's a bus service (not a tour as such) that takes you from the resort area Yulara to Uluru and then picks you up. The return bus was over an hour late so we decided to get a car.
Having a car does give you more flexibility about coming and going from the park and the two key sites in the park (Uluru and Kata Tjuta) but it's not absolutely necessary.

i loved having a car- when everyone zigs, you zag and it gives you great flexibility especially at 'peak" viewing times, dawn and dusk. i also took part in cultura;l activities and signed up for one nighttime activity "tour" which was only about 8 people.
do it. you can zip down to katja easily in 30 minutes or less and have the valley of the winds to yourself. a great experience. you can also start the hike around the base from wherever you'd like.
the cultural center should be your first stop, though and do one of the walks with a guide in the morning and/or pick up a booklet to know what you are seeing, but definitely don;t be part of the herd!
