Sydney mystery question

This might be something the locals can answer. Since we returned from a recent trip to Sydney and New Zealand I've been showing my photos to friends and I always get asked this question: why was there white underwear hanging from all the umbrella tables at the Opera Bar restaurant?

These links might help - they were calling it Sydney's Backyard Opera Bar - and I am guessing that was meant to be part of this backyard theme!

Hanging washing out in the open on a clothesline is very much part of the Australian landscape.
Especially well known is the Hill's Hoist!

Ahhhh, not I get it! I have very similar photos that I took, but I didn't connect the washline theme. Thank you for solving my mystery!

I too saw the lines of washing . . . and noted that they were strung well out of reach!

Guess they didn't want anyone taking home free samples. Di

Exactly. It's a backyard BBQ. There's always washing on the line in the backyard.

Unless you can get the man of the house to fold the line down, pull it out & stick it in the laneway at the side of the house.

No, MissGreen - it was there all through January, as part of the Sydney Festival, I think. Di
