Why does no one ask about Perth
Thanks a lot JET, I got quite a bit out of it. Perth is on my first-trip itinerary because of you. I see that it is like going Wash D.C. to L.A. for a long weekend, similar flying time and advance purchase ticket prices and earning FF miles.

If I lived in Sydney, I'm sure that at least once in my life I would make a visit to Perth to see the beautiful racetrack and hit the beach.

There I'll be in Sydney actually being able to read up on the advance purchase fare sales to Perth. Enough time to both get that sale fare and to get over my jet lag. A bit of jet lag from PER back to SYD, so Perth in the middle of the trip. I'll see the big race in Perth on Jan 1, flying that morning, instead of the Auckland Cup.

I checked the US forum, and yes there are quite a few nasty posters. The difference between there and here? IMHO:

There they gang-bash the poster on the slightest of reason. Then they bash each other. Having been bashed, then bash right back.

Here, you bash the poster a bit. Then you bash each other. Having been bashed, you sniffle a bit, then bash right back.

I have visited both Perth & Sydney & loved them both. Sydney has many great features as does Perth - different but great. Everyplace you may go in Australia has a different personally, that's what makes the travelling so enjoyable - nothing is consistent. Althrough Sydney & Port Douglas must rate as my favorite places all the other places I visited in Australia, including Perth, are close behind. You don't know youself until you see a place rather it measures up in your eyes just don't attempt to see someplace through someone else's eyes. Amen!

Western Australia was my favorite part of the time I spent down under in 2000. We drove up the coast from Perth to the pinnacles, monkey mia, coral bay, and exmouth. On the way back we stoped in Kalbarri. The drive was long but so different from Canada that we we not bored at all! The beaches and snorkelling in Coral Bay and Exmouth rival anything else I have ever seen. In fact, after W.A. we flew to Cairns and made our way to Sydney Although I was impressed with the GBR, I loved W.A. more. Perth itself is a great city and vastly underrated. Next time we go I want to go as far as Broome and then to Darwin.
