Without more information, this frankly, is a silly post Alex06, even for a centenarian!

Hello Alex,
I'm guessing this will be your first visit to Australia, and that English is not your first language.

Your question is very difficult for us to answer for many reasons, some of which are:

* Australia is a huge island, so is surrounded by many, many beautiful beaches.
* We need to know which part of Australia you are visiting so we can advise you about beaches in that area.
* If you want to surf, that would probably be a different beach to one where you would fish.

* Some beaches are not suitable for swimming at some times of the year - so we need to know when you are planning to visit.

* "Best" is a subjective term, and many people naturally have their favourite beaches, but those beaches may not appeal at all to other people.

We're trying to help you Alex, and will be happy to do so if you come back and give us some information so that we can.

If, on the other hand, you're having a bit of fun and winding us up .... a hike might be recommended instead.

The winner of a competition for Australia's whitest beach in 2006(?) was Lucky Bay in Cape le Grand National Park near Esperance in the far Southwest.

The best beach for tripping over hungover British and Irish backpackers is Sydney's Bondi.

Shelving my doubts about this post for a few seconds:

I've lived near Australian beaches for pretty much all of my life and my clear cut favourite is Twilight Cove, near Esperance in south-west WA. An unforgettably beautiful beach.

It is widely publicised that the whitest sands in the world are located on Hyams Beach at Jervis Bay (and, no doubt, Whitehaven Beach in Queensland). I absolutely love Jervis Bay (and think it is the best kept secret in Australia). The sheltered beaches (eg Honeymoon Beach near Perpendicular Pt) are absolutely exquisite with aquamarine, chrystal clear water that is completely unpolluted (Jervis Bay is surrounded by national park so there are no pollutant industries). Also, the protected beaches here don't have the horrid afternoon winds of the West Australian beaches. Having said that, though, I really do love the sunsets on WA beaches (like Cable Beach at Broome). The beaches of Queensland have the reputation of being overcrowded and, unfortunately, cursed with stingers in summer. There are some really lovely beaches in northern NSW, eg Crescent Head (a famous surfing beach), Lighthouse Beach (Port Macquarie) and some of the Sydney beaches are lovely (forget Bondi!), eg Cronulla, Coogee and the northern beaches of Collaroy, DeeWhy and Narrabeen ... BUT! ... my opinion is that the beaches along the southern and emerald coasts of NSW are absolutely spectacular, uncrowded with clean water. Only down side is that these beaches are best visited during the peak of the warmer summer months as the water is still quite cold in spring. I'm only giving a selection of some of "my favourite" beaches but it is absolutely impossible to say what is "best". There are different beaches that are fabulous for different reasons. As others on this forum rightly state, all comments are subjective and what one person favours, another may not appreciate.

I like the beaches at Cape Range National Park - Ningaloo Reef and pretty much all of the beaches of North Western Australia are outstanding.

WA has some beautiful beaches. Esperance has some of the prettiest beaches I've ever seen, but I'm hardly a beach expert. Funny, on our trip to SA we didn't see a single nice beach. They were all covered in seaweed, one had so much seaweed piled on it that you could barely see the sand. Ick.

Perhaps the OP is merely putting together a "bucket list" of beaches to visit before he dies, and hasn't got a specific time frame.

Replies like the last half dozen or so are pretty helpful, especially when they recommend the season that each beach is at its best. Vacationers (holiday-makers?) can plan their trip to hit the best beach during its best season. Kinda like wildflower watching in spring or "leaf peepers" in Autumn.
