Hi there,
My Husband and I are travelling to Australia in April next year, and we plan to go to the Whitsundays area. We are meeting up with friends from Melbourne, and want to have a fun filled time! (we are from Scotland, and wont have seen them for 2 years..)
We have a moderate budget, but accommodation isnt as important to us as a great setting, a bit of night life, and good "beach" atmosphere! (not asking much!!)
Any advice would be welcomed!

I was in the Whitsundays in May with the Tourism Board.

For a bit of nightlife, you want Hamilton Island, where you can find every sort of accommodation.

Are you into sailing the islands?

If you are interested in chartering a yacht the Whitsundays is a perfect place to explore and find those beaches!You can charter with minimal experience (the charter company will give you instruction and you can hire a captain for a day or two). Hamilton Island is the biggest resort in the Whitsundays and has it's own airport. You can also fly into Proserpine for the Whitsundays.

I would recommend Hamilton island as it has a few different bars and at least one nightclub.

It's also a great spot because it has so many differnt activities to keep you busy and you can also do day trips to the Reef and to Whitehaven Beach.

Also, because it has its own airport, you won't spend unnecessary time on ferries trying to get to the mainland etc so can enjoy your trip for longer.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon there and then went back again 2 years later and have met some of the best people there that we stayed in touch with. It has a great atmosphere.

If you have a moderate budget then avoid Haymen, don't get me wrong, it's fantastic but it's also expensive.

Hi we sailed in the whitsundays on a boat called Siska. There were 20 people on board from UK, Australia, Italy...a really friendly atmosphere, lots of booze and plenty of time to talk and enjoying the scenery. Stopped in hamilton island and other beautiful beaches, snorkeling good food. Highly reccommend! Not too expensive.
