I also take Airborne and Zicam (the chewables).

How well they work, I'm not entirely certain. All I know is that never fail, I used to always come down with something while traveling.

I first tried Airborne on a trip to Europe last year. My travel companion came down with a miserable cold a few days after we arrived, and I was perfectly fine throughout the trip.

Just read that echinacea has been shown to be ineffective, for preventing or curing colds. I guess I`ll throw my bottle of liquid echinacea away, it is outdated anyway! The problem with airplane air is that it is so dry. I use neosporin or vaseline in my nose too. Don`t know if it helps but I usually don`t catch a cold on the plane.

I am puzzled!! I've read Melodie's and LoveItaly's posts a couple times now and, as LoveItaly might remember, I guess I'd really like to know what that mesh bag IS for. Please you two don't stiff me on this!!!

Gotta ask, if all your toiletries are by the front hall, how do you brush your teeth, etc.? If I get ready too soon, then I end up unpacking to get to my stuff and then forgetting everything. I pack up the carry on one day ahead and then use it like I am already on vacation, putting everything back. We, too, have developed a checklist which is invaluable. We keep it in a ziplock back labeled "emergency underwear" and then put the EU in the bag when packing. That goes in the carry on in case the main bag goes missing. Have used it a couple of times, too, and the list has saved our bacon a number of times. Airborne hasn't worked for me--what does is getting plenty of sleep before and during the trip. Have a grand time in NZ!

What we're nattering on about is a Travel Document bag. Apparently LoveItaly has some snazzy mesh kind -- mine's an icky color of green, nylon, appox. 10.5 x 5", w/ a zipper on top. I put all my travel documents in it, in order; airline tickets first, then the confirmation of our first hotel, etc. As each one gets used, they move to the back. Passport & driver license in there as well (although this year I got one of those document holders that you wear around your neck.

Sally....toothpaste easily accessible in my luggage -- it's in a quart size Ziplock bag along with the battery operated toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss which is in the mesh / flap of my suitcase. Easy peasy to grab it out, brush teeth and put it back in!

Hello all, actually my mesh bag is not a snazzy color, it is navy blue. A friend gave it to me and I haven't used it yet. But since reading Melodie's post I realize what a good idea it is to put all the travel documents in it as she does. I never knew what my mesh bag was intended for and I was to embarrased to ask my friend, LOL.

Sally, once I pack my luggage, the check in suitcase and the carryon bag I do not touch it (open it again)at home. I have always had duplicate items for travel, toothbrush, toothpaste, all toiletries for my carryon bag.

Consequently I have the same items in my bathroom. I do want to mention however that the bathroom toiletries in my carryon are "travel size" not the larger sizes. I just replace what I need as I travel.

I usually just throw away all the bathroom toiletries before I fly home. Consequently my carryon bag has room for whatever purchases I have made on my trip.

And when I return home, usually tired, I don't have to start going through my carryon bag for the toothbrush, toothpaste etc. They are all in the bathroom waiting for me!

This makes travelling so much easier.
