We are coming from Canada and will be in Perth at the beginning of March, and then Sydney near the end of March. What can we expect temperature-wise in each place. What kind of clothes should we pack? We have never been to Australia before. Thanks in advance.

In Sydney, in March the weather is a bit erratic--it can still be hot swimming weather and it can be chilly. This is the beginning of Autumn and there's often quite a bit of rain around the change of seasons. I'd bring layers: T-shirt, light jumper, light jacket.

Pack what you would if you were going to Los Angeles in September.

I have never been to Los Angeles so I wouldn't know what to wear there either. What do they wear there?

Both of my trips to Australia have been in March so I agree with Susan7 - bring items that can be layered. When we were in the south, we needed jackets in the evening because of the lower temps and rain. When we headed north around Cairns it was much warmer.

For Perth, average daytime temps in March are between 27-30c. However, March is an unpredicible month...demonstrated by an extended heat wave a few years back and by a freak thunderstorm we had last year, where we got damaging hail and 40 mm of rain.

As you're visiting Perth in early March, it will most likely still be very warm.

Warm weather clothing and a light jacket ought to do the trick.

Weather in March in Perth will still be mostly hot. As Melnq8 says, averages around 30 but you can expect it to be as high as 40 - or as low as 20. Definitely have a jacket as evenings and air-conditioning can be cool. However, the shops will be full of winter clothes.

Everyone experiences the weather differently, so have a go at working things out from the data.

Things must have changed since I lived in Alberta then if you cannot get summer clothes in Calgary. Shorts and T-shirts should be everywhere.

You can get clothes for Calgary summers which, I am sure, don't compare to places like Australia. I was thinking that there might be more "light cottons" and pretty sundresses, light capris etc. Clothes in Alberta are heavier. Since they will be going into their winter though, that plan may be derailed.

Yes but its not going to be high summer and there will always be something available in some of the boutique shops I am sure.
I am not so sure about the difference in summers between the two places i.e. Calgary/Edmonton and say Sydney - its just hot for longer in Sydney with fewer huge mosquitoes but more humidity. On average though March will be very pleasant.

I think summers last much longer than here. I could be wrong though. We don't get humidity either. Huge mosquitos, where? in Sydney? I think we are probably going at a good time. Thanks!
