A bit more on Doug's problem - you don't say whether you're visiting Australia (other than simply transiting) as well as NZ, but the relevant Australian website (www.dimia.gov.au) states that all visitors (except NZ citizens) require a visa to enter Australia.
If it's NZ that may be a potential problem, you can find your nearest consulate at www.nzas.org/NZ_Consulates.

Thank you Nei for your response. My mother and I are citizens and do have eta for OZ and don't require a visa in NZ. However, my wife is chinese national that did get visa for OZ but has waited till this late date (weekend) before flight to believe me that she needs one for NZ. 18 day trafalgar tour tickets are prepaid and If New Zealand consulate is as difficult as OZ I afraid we will never manage to obtain visa for her Monday/tuesday so we may leave wednesday. Physically impossible probably. I'll start phone/email/fax campaign monday am asap with LA consulate in last ditch effort. Maybe She can fly out tuesday a day early if someone will confirm they will help us in short order. can't believe we have messed this trip up. It has been a dream to visit. We only recently were alloted time
If anybody knows anybody or any shortcuts I would greatly appreciate it.
