Vatulele v Namale
I am having a difficult time deciding between Vatulele and Namale for my 10-day honeymoon. Is Vatulele worth the extra money? If so, why - is it the food, service, etc.?

Both of these resorts sound wonderful and I look forward to hearing your opinions. Thanks!

We went to Namale in '98 & to Vatulele this May. Believe me, you cannot be disappointed in either choice. Namale is a little smaller & more intimate, great honeymoon bure. Vatulele has great beaches & Nooki Island to spend a private day on. If I absolutely had to choose I suppose I would choose Vatulele since the watersports are better & the chance of good weather more assured since it is off the southern coast. Namale is more tropical (Vatulele has plenty of vegetation though!) since it rains more in the notheastern sections. I think food was comperable at theresorts, Vatulele gave more personal service, with meals choices anywhere, including your terrace or bure or on the beach plus other selected spots, the wine cellar, in a gazebo overlooking the beach, private beaches & of course Nooki Island! You can be as private or as social as you wish. But Namale's honeymoon bure Nanise is fabulous! Big private deck & shower seems to be amoungst the trees. They have built 3 new honeymoon bures since I was though.Tough choice. Maybe one for a honeymoon & one for an anniversary sometime down the road. Not sure of the difference in cost now since I believe Namale has gone up. But you will haave an incredable time at either place. It is the Fijian people that also make these destinations so special. Let me know if I can answer any other questions. Good Luck!

Thanks, Peggy!

You are right - both destinations sound wonderful.

Did you do any diving? My fiance and I are novices, but I wonder if either destination is preferable to the other.

The price difference is still there - about $1500-$2500... significant enough to give pause.

Did you see any major differences in the level of accomodation? From the photos, Namale's honeymoon bures look exceptional (wood floors, beautiful furniture, etc.)

I am in the States: any suggestions on booking agents?

Thanks again - I really appreciate your help!

Jim,
We don't dive but from others comments it seems either detsination will be good. There were couples at both resorts just learning & both have locally trained dive masters. Namale does have a pool to learn in. At Vatulele they learned in the ocean, though of course shallow level. At Vatulele we saw turtles, live brain coral & tons of fish just snorkeling & some others saw reef sharks. The snorkeling was not as accessible at Namale, nor the water close to the resort as clear. But the people diving seemed pleased. The Cousteau resort is near by so the diving must be good!
I would say Vatulele's accomodations are more expansive, about 2000 square feet including terraces. Namale's are smaller but comparably upscale & very romantic.
I always use Fiji Reservations at 1-800-256-4280 or 1-888-447-3454 http://www.maui.net/~fiji/
Ask for Jack, tell him I (Peggy from Lancaster, California)referred you.
Check out the recent comments on the Live from Fiji link on the web site.
Suggest you get a day room when you get there (usually early morning) until your connecting flight leaves. Tanoa International is a good hotel close to the airport(about $40.00 is all we paid for a dayroom). When were you planning on going? If you have any other questions please post or e-mail me.
JIm,

I am heading to Namale in September and we are using Fiji Reservations also and Jack is our POC. He is great! We have a honeymoon bure reserved on Namale and then we are heading to the Hideaway resort for another 4 days. I can't wait. Like Peggy said, check www.fiji-islands.com and look at the live from fiji link. The people that use and work for Fiji Reservations post comments there.

Happy planning and let us know what you decide. When is your wedding?
