Bora Bora hotels

Just can't decide on whether to spend 6 nights in August 2001 at the Pearl Beach Resort or Le Meridien. Anyone know of pros and cons of each? Interested in really nice beaches, water activities (scuba, sailing) on site, good restaurants, etc. Thanks for any thoughts you have.

We stayed at Le Meridien. It was absolutely gorgeous. We were in an OWB - and the design of the bungalow was incredible. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. They're both pretty new - opened around the same time, they're both on motus - not on main Bora Bora, they're both beautiful., etc. etc. At Le Meridien, if you eat there all the time it was a bit pricey - dinner was the only one I thought was really too high. There were lots of options you could sign up for/purchase as far as things to do. By sailing, I'm not sure what you mean -but they did have a fabulous sailing excursion on a big cat - snorkeling and sunset cruises. I don't scuba - but I believe there were scuba trips available. Most things are done by other tour operators - but I have to believe that the hotels all use basically the same groups and kinds of tours. I assume you've gone to the Tahitian web sites for restaurants and other information on hotels.... I know I haven't helped at all - but, those are 2 good choices. I would stay at Le Meridien again, but as with the trip we went - if I really had all options available, I would go to Hotel Bora Bora. It was closed for renovations when we went.

This may sound like a nit - but one of the things we loved about Moorea is that from our deck, we could walk right down and snorkel amid thousands of beautiful fish because the hotel had been there for awhile, and the coral, etc was built up. Since Le Meridien is new, the coral - and therefore the fish - is not right there under the bungalows. Since Hotel Bora Bora is more established - there are more critters available.....(I specifically loved the moray eel that lived under our bungalow in Moorea - luckily (I think), we didn't see him until about the 3rd day there....)

Just returned from trip to Bora Bora - stayed at both Le Meridien (LM) and Hotel Bora Bora (HBB). Had a great time...hope to go back soon.

Thoughts --- since it is winter this time of year...LM had more sun time due to position of the sun, OWB was great, beds were not very comfortable, water activities were good - Hobie Cat for rent - great fun, surf bikes, etc. Nice beach, ability to see other side of Motu was great (however, mosquitos were present), snorkeling was not as good as HBB.

HBB: stayed in two types of bungalows (superior and deluxe)- both were very nice - beds were very comfortable, CD players in the bungalows. Nice beach, snorkeling just off the hotel was the best, could see tropical fish from the shore. Scuba providers right next door. No mosquitos. Very private location.

Heard from others the PB was very nice. This time of year, would have good sunrise, however, sun will set on the other side of the motu from the PB.

All hotels offer range of activities - shark feeding and stingray feeding (via snorkeling), sailing on large catamaran cruises, jet skiing, scuba diving (reefs, sharks, manta rays, tropical fish).
