Tanga is good..lots sydney ppl have timeshares there.
You realise you will have to get the ferry across moreton bay.It is on a big sand island...not unlike fraser..other things to do besides pat the dolphins.
You shoulkd also realise that springbook and natural arch are down at the back of the gold coast.

Hi Valen,
We stayed at Tang in Oct 01 and it was fabulous.
In fact we liked it so much that we are back in Oz from UK for Xmas and new year and we will spend 4 days including Christmas day on the island.
As John says there are plenty of things to do there, incl snorkelling, diving and sand tabogoning on the dunes Archery, tennis.
Bar Food is good and reasonably priced.
Didn't try the 'posh' restaurant as the bar was great for us.
The resort shop is a bit pricey so smuggle any food and drink you may need from Brisbane.
But 'eating out' on the island is really reasonable.
Did you know Scooby doo the movie was filmed there?
The only problem with your trip is I wish you could stay longer than one night.
It is a great place to visit
Have fun

thanks johhj_au and muck for your replies.
yes johhj_au, I know that I need to take the ferry to go to tanga. I am planning to take the local tour for springbrook and natural arch. Is it really worth seeing?
thanks for the trivia muck regarding scooby doo. Where did you stay there? I am planning to book a hotel room since it has air conditioning.

Hi Valen,
We are in driftwood apartments overlooking one of the pools.
Stayed in driftwood last time and it was fine, not5* you understand but perfectl ok.
Hotels are new I think, not there when we were there last time.
Not sure about A/C though managed without last time.Perhaps I will investigate further.
Thanks
Muck

Valen....
it may be surprisingly cool at Tanga in august. You may need that reverse cycle a/c.
Are you going whale watching at Tanga as well?
Maybe it would be best for you not to take the springbrook trip...so you would spend some time in Brissy and take a trip to the sunshine coast(see the crocodile hunter's zoo)
Tanga is quite similar to Fraser and Fraser is a long haul from Brisbane.

Hi Guys,
With Valens A/C suggestion in mind
I have been in touch with Tanga, and they tell me I can have a hotel room with A/C as Driftwood has fans only.
Problem is that there will then be 4 of us in one room.
I think its too small and will be too cramped for 4 nights. Also there is no facilities for cooking which isn't really a problem, although a fridge would be nice.
I know there is a sea breeze and I know that its sure to rain, but has anyone experienced Tangalooma at Xmas? is A/C a must?
I am weighing up room space against A/C.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks
Muck

Hi johhj_au and mucky! thanks for your reply.
johhj_au : I am planning to go to Brisbane infact I will stay there for 2 night and I will join the tour for brisbane city sights and sunshine coast. I really can't decide between Mt. Tamborine, Springbrook and Tropical fruit world. Is tropical fruit world similar to the big pineapple? Aside from fruits, is the resort also nice? then finally I am off to Tanga.
Mucky: I went to their website and saw that a hotel room can accomodate 4 people. But I don't know if you'll be too crowded. Since I'll be going before you I'll tell you my opinion when I get back.

Hi Valen,
We will probably leave our apartment as it is, my kids are 16 and 13 and both adult size so it's going to be too cramped in the same room. I considered 2 rooms but cost is obviously an issue then.
I will look forward to your thoughts when you return, but will leave it for now.
Have a fabulous time, and don't miss the opportunity to snorkel the wrecks.
We will have 2 days in Brisbane too and I am yet to consider what to do on these days.
Tell me more about springbook.
Thanks
Have a great time

Big pineapple is very similar to tropical fruit world.I wouldn't bother going to tropical fruit world.
If you are going on a trip south of brisbane also consider one that goes to Lamington national park...perhaps your springbrook tour might go in to BinnaBurra as well.Natural arch is a good place for a swim...but it will be too cold in august...maybe some english backpackers will be stupid enough to go in the water.
How does your overall itinerary look?
May I ask where you are from?

Oh John,
How could you be so cruel and disrespectful to English backpackers
(I am welsh by the way).
What you must remember is that whatever the temperature of the sea in Brisbane area it will never ever be as cold as anything we have here in UK.
So to the 'English backpackers' it will seem really warm.

Well Muck I remembered you were a Glamorgan man.So where i would have normally said "pommie" i toned it down a bit.
Of course you taffies would never do stupid things.
Natural arch has a neat waterfall and swimming hole.Backpackers jump off the falls and perodically hurt themselves.
As for a/c in tanga...you must be getting a good dose of heat in wales atm?
Do you know of a village called crofty near swansea?

Yes hottest day ever recorded yesterday 100F.
Just a typical day in queensland...lol
You are smack on, we welsh would never consider doing anything so daft, not until we have had a few pints anyway.
Crofty is on the Gower penninsula northside. Have you been there?
Gower is really quite nice in summer.
Glamorgan had a good win at the weekend and the sun is shining, you didn't call me a pom, what more could I wish for.
Cheers

Hi Muck,
I have only been to north wales but I play cricket with a pom whose father-in-law has retired to Crofty. He is great glamorgan, wales and (unforunately) Neath man.We have had some good days at the scg and out on our boat.
Next time i'm in the uk in summer I am going to drive west and knock on his door.Maybe even go to a county game...does glamorgan only play in cardiff these days? what about swansea or abergyenny?

HI Mucky and johhj_au I am from the Phils. I went to Tanga on Aug 29. Except when we arrived it was really pouring and cold and I was afraid that the dolphins wont come bec of the weather. really had a lovely time!
We stayed at the hotel. It is really nice and new. I loved it! They gave us the view overlooking another apartment (sorry don't know the name). I can see and hear a little part of the bay there.
1st day, just washed some clothes, walked on the beach (with umbrella, was really raining), went to register for the dolphin feeding. Wasn't able to do much anything, just stayed in the room and relaxed.
Night - dolphin feeding, really loved it! It was my first time to feed them and see an actual live one upclose!
Next day
weather was lovely. planned to leave on the 12pm ferry but decided to go whale watching since it was a beautiful day! Loved it! It was my first time to see an actual live whale swimming!!! Since my experience of seeing them was only on tvs. The lady said (guide???) that it was one of the best days bec they appeared many times. It showed its tail, but guess what, my digi cam ran out of battery!!!
I really enjoyed my stay there and plan to go back another time.
