These days with GPS, navigating most cities is a doddle. Like the US, England and Canada, Australia is made for cars. You get a much better experience by getting out there and having a look. An average tour to the Blue Mountains costs about $135 per person. How much does it cost to rent a car and just drive out there yourself? How much better is it to do things at your own pace?
At the end of the year I'm off to Chile. I've never been there before but I'm hiring a car for sure (driving to Santiago to Pucon). I'll spend a couple of days in Santiago on foot then get my car(like I advocate for those coming to Sydney). My guess is that the roads are worse than ours and Santiago is crazier, but that's not going to stop me.
So, stop being a cry baby Neil and stop making accusations.
