Sydney - Park Hyatt or Quay West Suites??
I am going to be spending 5-6 nights in Sydney and I am trying to decide between the Park Hyatt and the Quay West Suites. I like the idea of having apartment conveniences at the Quay West Suites, but I like the location of the Park Hyatt better. I would be getting a harbour view room at either hotel. Would anyone recommend one over the other? What about splitting up my stay between the two? Thank you for any advice!

I don't think it's worth splitting. You have to choose.

We stayed at the Quay West annd loved it.

It really is a five star facility...great locatin,,,right at edge of rock...sits right behind the Regent...but is higher.

The kitchen is complete with most everything...granite counters....2 fridges (one is mini bar...one for personal use)...

The suite is huge....large living room/dining room with full size dining table (stereo vcr, etc) and large bedroom. We could see harbour bridge from our bed.

The washer and dryer are in a separate laundry room right off the kitchen...so its hidden but easily accesible.

If you go,you MUST have a harbour veiw. We planned on eating out(there is room service)but we brought back ready cooked meal,,from David Jone's food hall (like Harrods). We added some wine and ate on our patio, looking at the opera house and harbour bridge.

Chalk and cheese really. The QW Suites have self contained facilities and PH doesn't. P.H has the very best situation of all though and so it really has to be your choice.
Take a look at www.wotif.com and see what the specials are though. Although when I went through the accommodation that way in Sydney I got the worst bedroom so it may not be worth it.

We just returned from Sydney and stayed at the Park Hyatt in one of their Opera House suites. The service and the hotel were wonderful. So many restaurants were seconds away and the area was great. Not to mention that the view was amazing. I couldn't give the hotel higher marks!

I posted a reply here earlier but now I don't see it. I will repost my message and I apologize if it appears twice!

Dick, LizF and Rachel - thank you for your replies. I appreciate them!

Dick, thanks for all the details about Quay West. It sounds wonderful and that is exactly the kind of room I would get were I to stay there.

LizF, I took a look at that site. I am trying to have everything lined up well in advance, but I will check it at the last minute in case there are any irresistible deals.

Rachel, hope you had a great trip! I have always wanted to stay there, so your positive words about it were very encouraging.

My accommodations in Sydney are going to big my big splurge and so I want to be absolutely thrilled with my choice. Anyway, thanks, again!

Hi again Mel
I think I would factor in the Sebel Pier One hotel as well into the equasion as that also has suites and is in a nice spot but you would want to have water views in which ever hotel you go to.
Just a word of warning to everyone about booking through "last Minute accommodation" sites - I booked the Grace Hotel in Sydney a few weeks back through one of those sites. Not only was the room the smallest possible space you could have given anyone I had to wait......and wait........and wait long after check-in time because they said that "engineering" had to do something in the room. Now as I was paying parking fees for a car at the time I was less than impressed and as I too am in the hospitality industry that made me even more angry. I too advertise on that particular site and no-one gets treated any differently from anyone else when they book that way. Further, seeing that there are about 4,000 rooms too many in Sydney I cannot believe that in the middle of the week Grace's Hotel could have been full of people that they could not have got a hurry on. Neither do I like being told in a petulant way that " we are doing everything we can Madam". So here is a big "brickbat" for Grace Hotel - which incidently my daughter's firm "used" to send all its employees to but now don't seeing that she had just spent 10 days there and then the night of misery with me.
Wake up hotels - there are lots of you!! There is also this forum too.

We went through the same dilemma- while the Park Hyatt is gorgeous, I grew tired of having to "walk through" the Rocks every time we wanted to go back and forth.
I think there is no comparision in terms of luxury/feeling you are in Sydney- there is nothing but water and ferry boats separating you from the Opera House.

I am always a "mover" and we moved closer to the ferries halfway through our stay for convenience's sake.
