sydney hotels

We have an option to stay at the at the Intercontinental Sydney or the Hilton Sydney (Relaxation Room). We will be visiting Sydney for our honeymoon.

We are wondering which hotel is better? Should we compromise on the veiws of the sydney harbour (offered by intercontinental, but not by the Hilton)?

Wow, hard to say. They are both great hotels. The Hilton is very fresh after having a major refurbishment. Weather permitting it is not far to walk down to Circular Quay from the Hilton and there you can get some great views of the harbour by night while you dine. The night view is strikingly different to the day. I think you are in a no lose situation though. They are both great hotels.

Agree that both are great hotels, but go for the Intercontinetal and those harbour views also closer to Gardens and Circular Quay. Preferred hotel for NBC during Sydney Olympics so hotel for the stars!!!!

Thanks for the replies.

If I am to finalize on the Intercontinental, I still have one question.

Is intercontinental better than the Shangri-la and the Four Seasons?

of those late in choices, definitely shangri-la.

the four seasons is a block and a half further but also superior to the intercontinental imho.

the neighborhood of the hilton will be better for your (assuredly) return trip, once you have done the tourist thing.

as long as you are in the four seasons territory...why not the park hyatt? there is no better opera house view tan one of their rooms?

it's a lovely hotel.

what about the quay grand suites? more room, and younger feel and you are pon top of the ferries for transport, with the opera house just footsteps away?

congratulations on your wedding.

so, i would say in descending order:

park hyatt
quay grand suites (for location and mod cons)
shangri-la
fourseasons (virtual tie)
intercontinetal (only for location)
hilton (gorgeous for a second trip.

If you decide on the Intercontinental go for a Club Floor room with access to the Club Lounge. Great to have all day refreshments including breakfast and evening canapes and drinks. The lounge has one of the best views in town from the 31st floor and also a wrap around outdoor balcony. We received great service from all the lounge staff.

Thanks Kerikeri,

I now have a confirmed reservation at a Horizon Club level Opera House View Room at the Shangri-La Sydney.

I'm looking forward to seeing the lovely fireworks on australia day at the harbour - on 26 Jan 2008.

Bhavik.
