Sydney : Four Seasons or Intercontinental
G'Day,
Which is your suggestion ?
Better a Full Harbour View Room at Four Seasons or a Club Intercontinental Sydney Harbour Room at Intercontinental ?
Is the Four Seasons better located for proximity in shops and restaurants ?
Thanks

From a Sydney-sider point of view, there's not much difference.
Foyr Seasons is nearer the Rocks and Circular Quay, which is the touristy area of the city.
Intercontinental is marginally further towards the business district, and away from the Quay, but close to the Botanical Gardens, and still walking distance to most things.
Shopping - depends on what you're shopping for - tourist shops around the Rocks, department stores and other shops are a but further towards the centre of town.
If you don't walk there's plenty of public transport.
Restaurants are everywhere - again it depends on what you want.
The central part of Sydney is not that big - a reasonably fit (well, fitter than I am) person could walk from one end to the other in say, an hour and a half (no dawdling or window-shopping, mind you).
As everywhere, you get what you pay for. I have no opinion on either of the hotels (although the Four Seasons was very good when a friend of a friend became ill while staying there!)

Hi Sunset,
We stayed at the Intercontinental in May '04 on their club floor and it was terrific. The new Club Lounge had just opened and it offers a spectacular view of the whole Harbour area, the bridge, Opera house and Botanical Gardens as it has floor to ceiling windows on three sides plus an outdoor wrap around balcony. Our room had the same view minus the gardens. The service and food etc.. served in the lounge was great including a very nice continental breakfast with some hot food as well and goodies throughout the day with evening canapes and other appetizers, desserts and drinks. A nice place to relax in and enjoy refreshments after spending time strolling in the city.
As already mentioned The hotel is in a very good location and is within close proximity of the tourist sights ie The Rocks , Opera House etc. and it was also easy for us to walk to the shopping area in the downtown core.
We would definitely have no hesitation in choosing to stay there again on any future trips to Sydney.

Intercontinental has just had a bit of refit throughout. The Service varies from excellent (the concierge service) to awful (the front desk - they mixed up our credit cards (charged 2 rooms expenses to one credit card - and let the wrong person sign for them) and told us they didn't cash VISA traveller cheques - which we were later told was wrong). Four Seasons is a touch closer to the harbour, but there isn't much in it. Rooms look a bit more spacious at the Intercontinental.
