My favourite spot in Sydney is the Circular Quay/Rocks area. Take a look at the Quay West/Grand apartments. If you are happy to take a risk and book about a month beforehand, then rates at www.wotif.com can be quite a bargain.
Waldorf is about a 15/20min walk from the Opera House. Parkridge further. The latter is just at the tip of a "younger" colourful area. I like Paddington but it may not suit you if you're conservative.

I also like Fraser Suites in Kent Street . Close to most things ( supermarket and other shops at World Square ) and nicely fitted out .See www.fraserhospitality.com

Be cautious about Oxford St only because it is extremely busy and carries a large volume of traffic which can make places noisy if they are not well soundproofed .

We liked the York. Good location, modern, clean apartments with washer and dryer. There's a cool pool on the sixth floor that we only discovered on our last day there. Would definitely return. There's a supermarket in Wynyard Station, which is very close by.

Whatever you decide, book it through wotif.com the minute your property becomes available. Check the cancellation policy carefully; it varies from property to property.
