Surging tourism at Aoraki Mt. Cook

This article appeared in last week's NZ news outlets about the surging tourism at Aoraki Mt. Cook and future steps that might be taken to deal with this, including plans for "park and ride" system. Nearly 1 million people visit the park every year. I doubt these changes will be implemented in the near future, but this is an indication that the park is having to deal with overtourism. All the more reason to visit in the "off-season".

A related story was about fatal car accidents at the dangerous turn-off for Aoraki Mt. Cook. If going there, please take care at this intersection.
