Skiing in Australia in July?
Can anyone recommend a nice ski resort area near either Sydney or Melbourne?
We are going to Australia in July and we were hoping to get some skiing in for 2-3 days while we're there. So far we know we're going to Sydney and most likely Melborne.
Thank you!

Quite a ways from Sydney to the snow, at least a 5 hour drive I would guess. Maybe fly to Canberra and drive from there. Alternatively, I would imagine there are small regional airlines that could get you even closer to Thredbo or Perisher. Not familiar with skiing in Victoria but would guess the snow a fair distance outside of Melbourne.

If you take a look at the ski areas of Thredbo, Perisher Valley, Falls Creek or Mount Hotham on an on line map, you'll see that none are located near Melbourne or Sydney - generally a 5 hours plus drive from either city.
You'd do better to fly in and out if your time is limited. Even then, there's a decent drive from the nearest airports to the ski fields, I think.
Last week of July & first week of August are generally reliable times for good snow coverage here. Di

Quicker to come to New Zealand to ski! And certainly much higher mountains.
Seriously it is a 3 hour flight from Sydney to Queenstown which is comparable to the other distances mentioned and you would get a much better ski experience.
